Do you find yourself wanting to smoke your rare/expensive sticks, but

Yeah... this might sound a bit morbid, but I would hate to die tomorrow with a cooler full of cigars that I never tried. Okay, so I think about these things sometimes. So I guess I'm gonna go smoke that Padron 40th maddy with breakfast now.... er... maybe I'll wait a little longer... :p

I think it was BBS who mentioned balance. I think he's right. I have noticed most cigars do better when they are untouched in the humi for several months. Kind of like a settling down process. Could be psychological on my part as well... I don't know. I'm broke most of the time so I have come to appreciate some of the less expensive options that are available. Doesn't mean I'm not smoking Opus on the holidays though....

I smoke what I have, when I feel like it. I only have 2 cigars that I'm saving: 1 PSD4 ('98) to be smoked next year and 1 Opus A ('00) to be smoked when my stepson turns 18.

Other then those, everything I have will be torched at some point.

Life is too short to smoke shit cigars.

Brian

This is true, but with my income it's too long to smoke PANs, PAMs, VSGs, DCMs, Opus and Anejos each and every day!!!!

snip..., you can have anyone you want in there :D

Brian

If you got any of AVB's friends in there, I'll be right over

EDIT TO ADD:

snip...1 PSD4 ('98) to be smoked next year....snip

May I ask the occasion besides the cigar's 10th birthday??

How will you know if you like them or not if you don't smoke them? What if that GOF you've been holding on to turns out to not be your bag of tea? My advice is buy two of each: one to smoke and one to hang on to. If it turns out you don't like them you can always trade or gift away....

I with Michael on this one.

The only fear I have is if I smoke them and like them .... will I be able to get more? :0

I usually wait for the right occasion to smoke my nice sticks when I know I will have a hour or two to spare .... I have kids and the last thing I want is to put a half smoked $20 cigar down to be ruined.

I've found myself on the fence on this one. I don't get to smoke that often right now, in fact I laugh at the idea of an "everday" cigar. "Smoke less, smoke better" has been my philosophy as of late. I only smoke 1-3 a week right now. Although there are one or two in my humi that I'm saving (one an Opus that I'm saving because I want to see what they're like with some age on them, the other a Tatuaje Cojonu '03 that I'm saving for a special occasion), everything else is fair game. Most of the sticks in my humi are ones that I haven't tried yet, so I'm smoking everything right now. Some, like the Tat '03 are ones that I loved and decided to buy again and save for a special occasion. My thought is that anything you haven't tried before should be fair game.

This is an interesting topic most of my rare stuff I end up gifting believe it or not. I think it is because a lot of botl have been kind to me and I want to repay the kindness that someone passed to me. For example I had a cohiba siglo 6 I had been saving for 2 years for a special occasion that occasion turned out to be the first time a cper came to my house to smoke from overseas i gifted it to them. I have never smoked a GOF but have gifted several and as i think about it i am quite happy doing this don't get me wrong I am quick to fire up whatever i am in the mood for.

There are some sticks I will smoke if they ever come into my possession i really want to try a chili pepper and the next GOF that comes my way is getting torched before I get a chance to gift it. But I agree with most here in burn them if you got them.

Words to live by IMHO. I smoke cheap dailys, but on the weekend, or when I'm alone, enjoying my free time, I grab an opus, hemingway maddie, etc., because I want to enjoy it, and there's no better time like the present. ;)

Hmmmmm. After reading your above statement I kinda likened it to losing ones virginity.
...I did it, I liked it, ... and afterwards, I hoped and prayed to all that was more powerful than me...
...that I would get more!

C&G...sometimes a cigar IS NOT just a cigar.

I end up being a pack rat and collecting them, I may start smoking them once I get a good selection of rarity's.

I tend to "collect" some of the rarer sticks, but always with the expectation that I will smoke them. On a daily basis, I grab what calls to me. I just moved from a smaller humidor, 8cuft lol, to a 18cuft, so now that there is no tetrus involved in the decission, everything is always fair game. It is seldom that I go to the humidor to pull out XXX or YYY, but when I do, it is because I have a hankering for a specific profile. As with many others here, I also have kids and a wife. So, having time to properly enjoy what I choose plays a role as well. I just don't want to risk a $50 cigar to an uncertian nap schedule. My kids have "ruined" many a fine cigar. All of that being said, I smoke more $8 cigars than $2 cigars (still looking for that diamond in the rough).

Smoke them. What good are they if you have to get rid of them tomorrow for some reason? Happen to me. Now I just wait long enough to fine a nice day.

As been said life is too short.

Send them to me and I'll keep them from tempting you! ;)

Hey, it's a tough job ...

:D

You could get run over by a bus tomorrow. Then, that no good brother-in-law of yours will smoke 'em at your wake. Is that what you want?

Doc.
