I had a Pepin JJ Maduro Selecto last night and was very impressed. I typically don't grab maduros but smoked it upon a recommendation from a friend. It had a beautiful wrapper and flawless construction. The flavor profile was very interesting - spicy and woody as you would expect from Pepin, but the maduro wrapper offered a hint of coffee/sweetness that made for a tasty combination.

Another Pepin winner in my book.

My fiance bought me a box of these at Pep's factory in Little Havana. I like the blend, although many don't. If you like these, give the 601 green, Habano Oscuro a try. You are sure to enjoy!

I've heard the 601's mentioned positively, and I love an oscuro wrapper, so I'll give those a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had a fiver of the jj's last summer and liked them as well. Your post reminded me I need to pick up some more. Thnax

The 601 Oscuros are great! The Trabuco is one of my new favorite sticks.

Was that your cigar I saw in the ashtray at JFH the other night? Glad you enjoyed it. I have liked the ones I've smoked, too.

Smoked one during the Superbowl festivities.
I enjoyed it!
It was on top of a lot of vodka drinks but it seemed nice.

Thanks Charlie for the stick!

Yep, it sure was! I didn't get to finish it all as I had to leave early.

Drop me a line next time you're heading up there.

is it an oscuro wrapper or a true maduro wrapper? There is a difference.

The JJ is a maduro the 601 is an oscuro, they are both great cigars but completely different. The 601 to me is very full bodied where the JJ maduro is medium bodied. I am not that big of a maduro fan, but I do really enjoy it as a change of pace cigar. (Pepin Maduro)

I prefer the JJ Natural much more. The maduro has too much spice and about 1/2 the way through gets pretty bland.

The natural on the other had retains a sweet grassy creaminess to it that is quite enjoyable.
