Friday evening a good friend of mine calls me and asks if I can help move a tv. Sure I say, no problem. So I run over to his house, and the tv turns into a dresser, an entertainment stand, a couch...you get the idea.
I woke up Saturday morning a bit stiff, but nothing out of the ordinary. I went about my business, picked up my daughters, went out with them and had a good day. On the way home, I stop to get a few things from the grocery store. Upon arriving home, I decide I can carry all the groceries and my girls overnight bag all in one trip (basically I didn't want to walk back to the car). After about 30 minutes I start to feel a bit of pain in my lower back...another 30 minutes pass and I can barely stand up. It became so unbearable I made my way to the ER while my daughters were at my niece's birthday party. The Doc there tells me it is just a pulled muscle and gave me some meds (basically glorified Motrin) and sent me on my way.
Monday rolls around and it continues to worsen. I go to my family doc, and he orders the dreaded MRI. Low and behold I have a herniated disk...wonderful. He doesn't believe it will require surgery at this point, but he wants to do another MRI in two weeks thinking the swelling will have gone down and he can get a better picture.
Anyone have any experience with herniated disks? What is the best way to alleviate or at least lessen the pain? A cold pack seems to work the best so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
