heres a question with the obvious answer of - Get a bigger humi. However this is my dilema. Can you store cigars in the box that they come in until you have room to put them in your humidor if it full? Or should I revert to the obvious and geta larger humi?

Thanks!

What's the RH in the area you live? Do you use air conditioning?

You can place the entire box in a tupperware container with a humidity source (i.e. beads) indefinately until you get a bigger humi.

And guys, please use proper grammer (i.e. capitalization). Thanks

Tupperdore for temp storage also works also large sealable jar with some beads will work or you can send the extra to me and I will take care of it lol rp

I'm only kicking in pedant mode for obvious reasons:

indefinately -> indefinitely

grammer -> grammar

tupperware -> Tupperware®

;)

Class adjourned :sign: :rolleyes:

I will be taking the cello off the box to store some of them in my humi. As far as A/C - its Sept. in Pittsburgh, so the A/C will not be on until next summer. I will however have the heat on, theres also a foreplace in my gameroom where my humi is. Not sure if thats a factor, it will only be used on occasion. Thanks for the suggestions! (I hope I spelled everything correctly)

Also - I will be in hiatus in about a month for about 4 - 6 months, unable to smoke. Any suggestions on a good stick to store for a while???

Don't place the extra boxes in your bathroom.. lol. Start with a vinotemp. If I could go back and do it again that would be my way. I started with a 50 count, then a 200 count and 3 weeks later a 28 bottle vinotemp. Now i'm thinking I should have bought 2. Oh well, live and learn.

As far as what to store, everyone will tell taste is subjective. What I like you might hate. I have enjoyed Padron 2000 maduros, Hemingway short storys that had a couple months on them.

edit: to add

D'OH!

Get a Coolidor, you can put it in your basement for extra storage. Wont be eye sore since it will be like a hidden stash. When you run low on your stash in your desktop Humidor, you can simple go back to your coolidor and pick up some sticks to keep the desktop Humidor always filled. :thumbs:

I made a coolidor, it is awesome, only about 60 bucks to make, can hold up to maybe 400 sticks if you have the right boxes and set up.

my .02 :D

P.S. Surprise no one else mention this. Wine-0-dor, seems to be the flashy way to go, but if you want to go cheap and no need for flash, then Coolidor is your best option. High recommend the coleman coolers.

Thanks Dave - I don't even know what a "wineodor" is....

I was thinking about this idea...

I was in Hondorus and brought back a very nice hand carved cedar chest. So since its already made of cedar I would only have to season it and build a couple shelves and put some weather strip on the lid so it seals good. I could probably store at least 1000 cigars in that. It also sits in my game room and I only use it to store some old papers and old cigar boxes anyway (which I could use as shelves).

That would be pretty cool. I could buy a pound of 70% beads to store and keep my desktop at 65% for the ones Im smoking.

That sounds like an awesome idea, I would love to see that when finished. I may suggest that the weather strips will be good for the door and such, but think about wood putty for the corners and such. That way you are 100% sure that it is sealed.

edit to add: also take a look at this set up. LINKY

What kind of cedar is it? If it is not Spanish Cedar then it will ruin your cigars. The concepts of a Wine-0-dor is the same as the Coolidor, except it allows for temp control which is a plus if you heat your house in the Winter or live somewhere that gets hot in the Summer.

As for which cigars to age for 4-6 months thats a personal preference. Most cigars will mature and blend with age, 6 months is not really that long of a period of time. I have had cigars that needed at least a couple of years rest to get over their sick period.

I would say buy your favorites, let them rest and see how they are doing upon after you return.
