Has anyone over the big pond bought one of THESE yet?...or used one?

I already have Palio and Xikar, so please, no siege of posts stating their virtues. Just looking for a new toy this Holiday Season.

I have not seen them yet, but I will try and get out this weekend to find one.

I've not used this model, but I have used cutters that are of this style. Yes, they are cool looking, and they are compact.. and they will work... but they don't work that well because there isn't enough "railing" to keep the blades as stable as you might find in other cutters, at least in the models I've used.

I've not used this model, but I have used cutters that are of this style. Yes, they are cool looking, and they are compact.. and they will work... but they don't work that well because there isn't enough "railing" to keep the blades as stable as you might find in other cutters, at least in the models I've used.

Moki, I've been conversing with a guy in England and he swears it's rock solid and cuts straight as an arrow....no "slop in the blade movement" as he put it. I asked if it left that little hump in the middle (like an Xikar) of a larger ring size and he said NO. I hope Tim can confirm this as I have a few lined up for shipment.

Tim, if you do find them (while checking for their effectiveness) check out the two different finishes. See if the black one is anodized and if you think it would scratch easily with the black color coming off. If so, I'll opt for the silver finish if you give them your blessing :laugh:

I should be able to get out this Wednesday. I have to go "Christmas Shopping" for the wife. I think I saw a shoe store up the street from the cigar shop :whistling:

Just got in....

Did not seem to find anything for the wife at the Davidoff store, A real nice one at that. I did find a few Cohiba, Punch, H.Upmann, Zino, and Zino Platinum. They also had a nice assortment of pipe tins and pipes.

But, they did not have your cutter there, I asked about it, showed a picture of it, and gave the lady the name of it. No dice :(

I think part of the problem is that I do not speak French, and she did not, or did not want to speak English.

My second stop, and my go to B&M, did not have it either, sorry. I tried my best. Hell it cost me 75 euro, but I guess it is not your fault I can not walk past a humidor without my wallet falling out :p :p

Thanks for the effort Tim...I couldn't ask for more. It seems the web stores than have them are either German or from the UK. Yet Xeto say they're available throughout Europe. I bet her English would have come back to her if you had a question about something 'In Stock' with a few euro hanging out of your wallet :whistling: Been there with those folks!

I don't know who to feel more sorry for though. Me, no more info on this cutter....You, for spending that much $$ on tasty cigars...or your wife, for you not finding a Christmas present for her yet!

I did get more info Al....one good, most bad.

I found 3 more vendors that said that the Xikar was a better cutter than the Xeto...by far. I asked very specific questions about how the blades slide on the 'rails' to give a clean, even cut...and all three came back with opinions saying not that good. I quote...

"Hi Gary
To be totally honest, the Xikar cutters are much better than the Xeto cutters. The Xeto cutters blades are sharp, but the precision cut is not as good."

"If you have an Xikar cutter, continue with them. The Xeto is not worth the price for the cut it provides."

"Definitely not worth the expense. We are not going to carry them once the current stock runs out. As far as sliding cutters go, the Xikar scissor provides a quality cut whilst the Xeto does not."

All 4 vendors were willing to ship to the US at a reasonable rate and had them in stock. I found no reason not to believe them...but the one vendor that recommended the Xeto was also the most expensive. :whistling: None of them even mentioned Palio...weird. Moki nailed it, I guess the current engineering hasn't improved with the increased price.

Two of the gentlemen that responded recommended The Pearl as the best cutter out there...and I tend to agree. I've used them quite a few times in cigar bars and smoking lounges, while large, they are very effective. I'm ordering one of them today as a home cutter...although I wanted the Xeto as a 'bring-along' cutter for it's unique looks and cool design, but it had to least make a decent cut!

Bought a similar cutter like the Pearl and it has to be one of the worst cutter I've ever used. Very cool design, but with so many moving parts, there's just too much deflection. Since I've bought my Palio, I've yet to use any of my other cutters.
 
Another +1 for Palio, I have replaced both my Xikars with it. Superb cut and no hump in the middle. It's compact, built solid and is great for a carry along.
