So, I had a nasty virus on my computer, and the only way I could get rid of it was to wipe my computer clean. Which was no big deal because I have a back up external hard drive. However, here is the problem. I am trying to get Microsoft words back onto my computer, the computer came with Works, so I brought Words when I first got the computer, needed it for school and job resume. However, when I put the disc in everything installs and works well, when I go to open a word document it requires a product key, Which I have on the back of the CD case. Here is the kicker, it doesnt work. I have put it in multiple times double tripled checked to makes sure I was plugging in the right letters and numbers.

Did anyone ever have a problem with this and a solution to fix it? Please let me know thanks.

You should be able to at least get into word for a limited time (30 days or something). If so, go to the help button on the top of the screen and click "Activate Product", make sure you have an active internet connection. If it fails this time or you do not have an active internet connection then you can activate via telephone using this same method.

Let us know how you make out :)

What version? If it is 2007, you need to put in the dashes as you type it into the single box.

Its for Microsoft words 2003, no dashes are needed because once 5 letters or numbers are in a box it automatically sends the keys to the next box for the next 5 letters or numbers.

David, I had the same problem with mine, contacted microsoft and they gave me a new code. You may be able to do it through microsft.com. As long as everything else is legit, Windows, Office, etc. they're usually glad to help.

No big deal its pretty common. At my day job I built a test lab which emulates our end user test environments. I have a bulk license copy of all microsofts OSs but it times out every now and then when the IT guys were installing it on 100+ vitual images they had to call Microsoft quite a bit. But its no big deal and it only takes a few minutes.
