Odd Request: Places in Orange County to have a special picnic?

I am new here, and have not been here long enough to know any of you, save for the fine gent who introduced to this place, but I can plainly see that there are lot of people here who not only appreciate the good life, but think about a lot of things the same way I do. I am hoping that because of this, you all could lend a hand to help out someone in need. It is not a big request, but it is very, very important to me as this may help me in a huge way to start fixing a relationship that has gone astray...

I need ideas on where in Orange County, or anywhere within a say, 30 to 40 minute drive radius from Orange/Anaheim area, I can take a very, very special someone out for a true picnic for Valentines day. I know it is cheesy and cliche, but she is the type that loves those kinds of things. I want to do something like this, because after six years together with her, I have fallen out of doing those things. It has damaged our relationship badly, my neglect of showing her I care, and I need to change that. I plan on giving her a few things on Valentines day, but the main part will be the picnic. My father owns an Italian deli, so I will have plenty of things to pack for our picnic, but I need an AWESOME location! The beach may be too cold this time of year, but, then again, it has been warm lately so if a beach location is a good one, I will keep a backup spot as well. Please, please help me!

I've been on probably every Gondola ride there is in the area. Of them all, I like the one linked to in post #4 the best by far. The coast through Naples Island is very romantic - especially in the sunset and early evening hours.

But that's not what I'm thinking of for you in consideration of your original post of this thread. I'm gonna suggest a place near you. It's in Santa Ana and is directly south of The Bowers Museum. A day spa called Montanya Spa. My suggestion is to look in the "packages" section of the provided link and shop around. Personally, I'd opt for "The Interlude" package of facial and massage. For her, I mean - not you.

I know Santa Ana may seem like a ghetto for the most part, but I really suggest this place. It's close enough to you to scout out in advance. It's got an Asian theme and is very serene. I read your pops owns a deli. That's perfect! Bring along some wine and deli meats/cheese. The staff will set you up in their outer garden. If it becomes too cold, they will bring you blankets and space heaters to warm you.

I think if you set this up for your girl, and wait for her during the treatment time (about 2 hours for the interlude package), and then surprise her with a picnic in their garden afterwords and while she is still aglow from her treatments.... you could score big time points. You can kick it in their indoor meditation lounge with a good book while you wait for her. They'll bring you tea while you wait for her.

This would set you back $185 for the package I suggested. Others are available at different prices. I sent each girl in my family to this place for their "Interlude" package as their Christmas gift this past year and it was a huuuuuge hit with them. They spent the majority of the day there. Probably spent more time with the wine and deli platter I sent them off with than they did receiving their treatments. Each of them positively gushed about the service they received and the tranquil beauty there.

If this doesn't do it for you, just say so and I'll scratch my head some more. But I'd nearly guarantee this to be a winner for you.

I checked that out, very nice!! I wrote that down as a possibility, I have a few different ideas and I will need to choose one. This looks very good, and it goes with the theme of the picnic food as well, thank you!

Heh, she doesn't do well with heights! Too bad too, cause I actually think that a hot air balloon ride would be awesome! Maybe I could convince her....

Thank you for the suggestion sir :) It is actually quite warm out here in SoCal this week, it was 80 degrees and sunny! Hard to believe that on the east coast they are having one of the worst winters....

Whoa. I think for Valentines day this would be a great idea, but I may have to reserve this one for March 10th....that is the day we hit six years together, and I think this would be a home run! Wow, this sounds amazing, and the price is not bad at all considering what you get. In fact, I think that I am definitely going to do this for our six years. Thank you very, very much for this, I think that this will top anything I have ever done. She will be getting jewelry that day as well...though what kind is dependent on how things fare for the next few weeks. Hopefully everything works out perfect. I am going to call tomorrow and start getting an idea on when I want to make the reservations for, I need to see what day the 10th falls on.
 
Checkin' back on this 'cause I'm curious what you went with.

Oh, I also noticed you ix-nayed the hot air balloon ride 'cause of heights. Don't let acrophobia deter you from that idea. I have never met another soul more petrified of heights than I am - seriously, never. I've been on hot air balloon rides and enjoyed them immensely. My first ride was in Sonoma, CA over the Dry Creek and Alexander Valley wine appellations. Just gorgeous scenery. I spent well over an hour conversing with the owner/operator prior to that ride. I know I'm gonna hack the science of this to pieces, but the general gist of it I can recall is that the mind is unable to register fear of heights from a moving object. Something about the need to be stationary and then stare at stationary point(s) to triangulate distance and depth to a degree of inducing fear.

If you do ever swing for the balloon ride, and do it locally, I'd suggest Temecula over Perris. Nothing like gazing upon lush vineyards from above.
