Band of brothers

I was watching today also love that series. Never been in battle myself but I sure as shit have a lot of respect for those who have.
 
It's the final installment of the series, where they interview them now as old men, that gets me every time.

I agree. To hear the stories and recounts of the things they did and went through is unreal.

It was a tremendous series for sure. Both of my grandfathers served in the European theater and were in and around the same places at the same time as the units depicted in the series. It is unreal to think that is what they went through and lived. I cannot ever be more thankful to those who served our country then and now.


Also, I cannot wait until "The Pacific" gets done and on HBO. I have not heard anything recently about it but did see a few months ago that production had started.
 
Wife bought the series for me 2-3 years ago, thereabouts. I lost count of how many times I've watched it through. This is a fine representation of our Greatest Generation.
 
Love this series. Favorite part is when Spiers is running through enemy lines and then comes back.

Hell, I cry every time Lt.Cmdr. Donovan drives his booby trapped D9 into a petroleum storage tank, frying a battalion of Japanese, and dies when shot by a sniper trying to get off the bulldozer.
A big pat on the back to anyone who can tell me what movie I'm talking about.

Loved "Band of Brothers" when I watched it back in 2001 on HBO. I've caught several of the episodes n the History channel, but need to buy this set.
 
I really find this series to be one of the most insightful views of WWII I have ever been able to watch. I also was lucky enough to have a father who fought in this, and he was in some of the battles depicted in the series. My father is a very quiet man especially about the war itself, and this show allowed me a view of how a kid 17 years old when first going into the Army grew up fast and very very differently then myself. I was always proud of my father once I got out of being a problem child as a teen, but this series gave me a whole new respect for what he and many others did for all of us.

Starring John Wayne. Hate the movies where he dies. Sands of Iwo Jima in particular. The Shootist was the exception. Perfect ending for his last movie. But enough thread jacking.

Anybody read the book that the series was based on? I highly recommend it.

John, I have read it and loved it. It actually has a bit of a different focus than the series and you get to know different people. I highly recommend it as well as it's a great read, as are most Ambrose books that I've read.

Doc, were you there for the original "....we band of brothers." speech? Agincourt if I remember correctly. :laugh: :sign:

Cornelius Ryan's books are excellent, too.

P.S. - Richard Winters is a PA boy. Hershey. :thumbs:
 
I snagged an unopened box set at a yard sale for $20.00. This thread made me want to open it for the 4th, but alas it and all my other cool stuff is stuck in a POD.
