Shopping in Detroit & Flint on Saturday

Nice scores! FMOTT is one of my favorite blends. The pipes look great, and the Sav dry system is one of the best filtering/moisture absorbing systems going.

    What's in your pipe today?

Longbottom Leaf in an Upshall oversize Rhodesian. Highly recommend these blends from Just for Him; nice aromatic note, but plenty of flavor as well.

    What's in your pipe today?

Late start on the first bowl of the day: Marble Kake in a no-name "Made in England" bent acorn.

    What's in your pipe today?

Earlier it was some Longbottom Leaf in a Brebbia Celliul; very nice rusticated slightly bent billiard with an oval stem and shank. For later, some Mississippi Mud from '04 in a Big Ben Prince. There!! Happy now?

Some more new stuff for the collection...

Great looking pipe!! I like all my Nordings, haven't had a lousy smoker yet. Nice lighter too. I think that's my favorite design, apart from the briar wrapped ones (and I'll have one of those someday, yes I will).

    Old Boy lighters

I've never been able to discern a taste with my Zippo, but then I generally smoke strong English or Balkan blends. Supposedly the new Zippo fuel formulation reduces the taste that folks complain about. I'd never use my Zippo to light my cigars. :D

    Peterson Tobac

Gave away the one tin of Sunset Breeze I had, but I like the SH on occasion. Here's a site to look at when you're curious about a tobacco you haven't tried: Tobacco Reviews

    Old Boy lighters

Actually, I use a Zippo pipe lighter as well. The Old Boy is better for the charring light, I feel, and the Zippo with it's fuller flame for keeping the bowl lit once it's burned down some. :)

    Old Boy lighters

Well, all it tells me is that as with any mechanical device, there will be some with prolems. The 2 standard models that I got had obviously had a lot of use and they still worked fine. Now, as to Savinelli's repair service, well, you DO have to keep at them. :D I meant to add in my other...

    Old Boy lighters

I have 3 that I got on the 'Bay as a lot: one like you show in your post, one with the pipe shapes, and a "Pipemaster", which is basically a side-firing lighter with electronic ignition. The two standard Old Boys worked with just a little cleaning and a fill; the electronic ignition one had to...

    What's in your pipe today?

This AM, used a bowl of Erinmore in a La Strada chimney. This was DGT'd from last night, too moist to keep it going in the car on the way home. Much better dried out anyway. French roast Sumatran to get the eyes open.

    Another noob pipe question

I think pipe smokers are just a touch more tolerant (ducking and running). While there are pipe smokers that wouldn't touch and aromatic to save their lives, what you most often hear on alt.smokers.pipes is "Smoke what you like, like what you smoke." Which I think is a pretty healthy attitude. ;)

    Questions about pipe smoking

Sounds like a great shop!! But don't let him put you off cobs. They're cheap, so it doesn't matter if you lose one. You can have one for every kind of blend you like so there's no taste transfer. You can buy a bunch and just use them to try out blends without leaving a 'ghost' in a good briar...

An eBay pipe listing should have....

Multiple photos, with close-ups, of the pipe. At a minimum, both sides and top of the bowl, both sides of the stem, and the stampings, if any are legible. If it's a high-end or collectible pipe, a COMPLETE description of any chips, dings or other damage. Rapid responses to questions are a must...

    This a good deal?

The three pipes on the right look like they've had the stems repaired with metal bands. They've all had very hard use, and look as though they've been stored in a basement. I'd guess you'd spend at least an hour with each one cleaning and sanitizing it. More if you wanted to ream out the bowls...

The Newest Addition To The Fold

Very nice!! Although I prefer smooth or sculpted meers myself, I do have one CAO Bekler filigree that I like very much. Now if it would only start coloring a little more evenly.... Ah well, it's the nature of the beast. Here's a link to the latest pipe I picked up at work today. Have yet to put...

    What's in your pipe today?

A bowl of 2 year old Mac Baren Mixture in a new Savinelli Natural brandy. I've run about 4 bowls thru this pipe in the last day or so and it's breaking in very nicely! Not bad for around 25 bucks.

    What's in your pipe today?

Well, I'm more used to seeing this on the newsgroup alt.smokers.pipes, but since I'm at work and would have to use the hated Google to post there, here goes. The ride home tonight will find me happily puffing on some Old Ironsides in an old and much loved Parker Canadian, about Group 2 I'd say...

    Blue Note

I guess it's all in the nose. I have a dog who would think that's exquisite.
