    Chivas: The Century Of Malts

Alright i tried it last night and actually went back for seconds! Unlike AVB, I thought the nose was faint. Maybe just suffering by comparison to what I am used to (Islay Malts). I did note a creamy sweet butter aroma. Reminded me of my Mom's vanilla cake mix. First taste had a very prominent...

    Some Hi-Time sale scotches

They have been dangling that Laph 10 at $28.99 in front of me for months! I can't touch it for under $45 here in CT.

    Free Glenfiddich Hip Flask

By support they mean, "Thank you for buying the bottle of Glenfiddich 15 Year-Old Solera Reserve" which is where one would get the code for the free flask. Is it ironic that Glenfiddich gets a FU for running out of flasks and not getting them to people who didn't buy the Scotch?

    Falling leaves

My house is completely surrounded on three sides by 75 foot Oak trees so my yard gets buried for about two+ months. Last year I bought one of those Ghostbuster blowers. It was about $300 but well worth it. It's a huge time saver. I go out every weekend for a couple hours and blow all the leaves...

    Chivas: The Century Of Malts

On Saturday, almost 1 year to the day of AVB's review, I came across a dusty bottle of the Century of Malts in my local package store. I don't usually shop for Scotch at this place because it's extremely expensive. I had to pick up a quick six-pack and found this way in the back. Since I thought...

    Come and join us

In Connecticut? Nearly impossible if you are not at one of the casinos. A bunch of us here attended a cigar dinner at Black Eyed Sally's in Hartford this past summer, but the restaurant owner had to close his doors to the public for the evening in order to circumvent the smoking ban.

    Come and join us

Sounds great! Especially now that the cold weather is on the way. I live in Farmington now, but I grew up not far from Warren.

Thanks AVB. I look forward to your review of this one as well. Cheers!

Laphroaig Cask Strength - 10 Years Old

This is the quintessential Islay. I wonder what it's PPM rating is, because it seems to blow Ardbeg 10's 53 PPM out of the water. I took a whiff of the Ardbeg and they weren't close. I'll do a taste comparison soon. The Laph was a beautiful amber color, somewhere between the copper color of the...

A must try for all you hop heads..

The Dogfish Head 90 is probably my favorite beer. The hop flavor and balance is just fantastic. I still haven't gotten up the nerve to drop $8 on a 12 oz. bottle though.

    Free Glenfiddich Hip Flask

Yeah it only holds a couple of short pulls, but it is nice. The logo is stamped in the metal and the price is perfect! Here's what it looks like.

    Balvenie 15 yo Single Barrel

Yep. Thought it might have been a peat induced flashback. Although my initial review may have come across as less than spectacular, this whisky has really grown on me in the last 8 months. As I mentioned in the review, it's a nice Scotch after dinner alone or with a dessert.

    Balvenie 15 yo Single Barrel

Very nice review as usual AVB. I bought the 15 thinking it would be an improvement on the 12 year old Doublewood. It's a fine Scotch, it just doesn't fit my tastes. The way I describe this dram is that it's a "Bourbon Lover's Scotch" a flavor obviously earned in the first-fill American Oak...

Where should we meet up? ;) For what we can get here in the States, our boys are doing just fine.

favorite 5 bottles in the collection

8 months after my last post in this thread I'd go with: 1. Laphroaig Quarter Cask 2. Talisker 18 y-o 3. Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 y-o 4. Caol Ila 18 y-o 5. Tie: Caol Ila 1991 Signatory Bottling

    Oktoberfest

I had the Hacker Pschorr last weekend (a lot of them actually) and I prefer the American versions. It may be a "true" Oktoberfest beer, but I think the American Breweries' Octoberfests are just better tasting beers. They have more body, more malt flavor and they are nicely hopped.

    TV Help

I spent the last year researching TVs for my father-in-law. I was most impressed by the Hitachi 42" 1080P plasma. There are a few different Hitachi lines and the best picture we saw was the 42HDT52. Go check them out at Bernie's in Newington, Southington or Manchester.
