    Raising your own tobacco.

I started with a goal of 205 plants.....but I'm down to 171 surviving seedlings at the moment. I expect some additional losses, so I've revised my goal to 160 plants or so. I plant in our family garden space at my parents house. I take care of the yard and vegetable garden for them, so it was...

More Opus/GOF Than I've Ever Seen!

Interesting....the authorized "shop" in my area is one I don't patronize since I consider their prices on Opus to be, um, exorbitant.

    Raising your own tobacco.

Is anyone going to attempt to grow their own this year? This will be my second year growing. Since I had so much fun with it last year I've expanded quite a bit and will be giving pipe tobacco processing a serious shot this go around.

    Bitter wrapper (not lit)

Agreed; and could also include incomplete fermentation. Both of these would tend to show up in the smoke as well. How was the burn? Poorly, or rather unevenly, fermented leaf will tend to burn poorly as well.

Uber rare one of a kind smoke

I'm going to do both, actually. I'm going to replant the Small Stalk Black Mammoth and Florida Sumatra along with some new cigar varieties, and I'm gonna give some pipe tobacco a shot this year. Here is my plan: Cigar Tobaccos: CT Broadleaf PA Broadleaf Havana 142 Small Stalk Black Mammoth...

Uber rare one of a kind smoke

Smoked this on Saturday evening. It was my second attempt to smoke one of the first experimental crop from Granja del Perro Enojado, rolled at 11 pulgares fábrica de tabacos. This was 100% Long Red Leaf from the 29 August harvest. Truthfully, it wasn't that bad of a smoke. It was obviously...

    white speckles on ash..

I believe that to be correct as well as it can also cause "flaky" ash. Oh, and ETA, it makes it very difficult to cure the leaves if any of the elements (N-P-K) are too high when harvested. Fertilizer applications stop completely around 30 days prior to harvest, and watering is dramatically...

Any input on Carlos Toraño cigars

The Casa Torano is a good cigar, but too mild for me in the natural version. The maduro is slightly better imo. The 1959, the 1959 50 yr, and the virtuoso are the ones I reach for more often. As always, YMMV.

    My little summer project

Thanks for all the comments guys, I appreciate it. I enjoyed the heck out of this experience, and have already procured most of the seeds I'll need for next year. Looks like I'll be going from 12 plants......to around 200. I did use sevin a couple of times. I also used...
