Since I'm in the middle of teaching my 15yr old how to work on the Cherokee I just bought him I figured it might be fun to see what everyone drives.
First up is his Jeep...
Okay, final entry to the tale of the Jeep Cherokee.
Yesterday my son and I had time to pull out the neutral safety switch. Holy crap that was the easiest fix I've ever done! The YouTube videos were spot on and once cleaned, sanded and hit with dielectric grease and re-installed the damn thing...
That's what I keep telling the wife. Son's already worked on everything with me so far. He freaked a little bit last time we had to jump the solenoid. I made him do it, you should have seen the look on his face when I handed him the screw driver and said watch out for the sparks! Lol
Scap, it looks like maybe an aftermarket with a horizontal crack. My guess is it's from the exhaust hangars being completely rusted out for quite some time.
Right now it needs the neutral/park relay thing replaced. My mechanic says he can do it for $450. I need to see if it's something I...
Well I'm dumb/stupid/incompetent sometimes but not quite that bad. LOL
Jeep didn't even make it home before it stopped starting again. Jumped the solenoid again and dropped it at the shop.
I have to learn to weld now from a friend because the header on it is cracked and we are going to weld it...
Well it was a loose wire coming from the relay! Fortunately everything I replaced needed done anyway so we're on to the next thing on the list!
I'll put up a pic later today or tomorrow as time allows.
Thanks so much for your help guys!!!!!!
Holy crap that dude is funny!!!
Jfields, I am going to check that stuff now and worst case scenario, jump the solenoid and get the radiator job (the original repair) finished so I can just drive up to my buddy's shop if I can't figure out what's not playing nice with the other parts.
Yeah, I think there's something with the ignition.
'98 Cherokee sport, 4.0 liter inline 6.
Starter and solenoid are sold and mounted together.
I jumped the first one with a screwdriver so I took it back as the solenoid was not working. But now with a brand new battery and a second starter I'm...
I have encountered that problem with a battery that went totally dead but charged up. Forgot about that until you posted. Thanks, maybe I'll just pick one up since it's on the replacement list anyway.
I can't tell, pretty sure it's out of its prime operating time. Just trying to get it running so I can finish the radiator and put everything back together. I will get a battery, just want to get it back together from the first batch of repairs.
Good idea with that, I will pull that off and grind it just to make sure. I will have to look at the connections on the starter to and make sure it's grounding out right.
Again thanks!
- Yes the lights and everything work.
- I found the positive side of the battery terminal loose, tightened it and still nothing. The battery is grounded out to the frame right by the battery.
- On my voltmeter it showed 12.6-7 ish volts, I pulled my vehicle to it and hooked up cables, let it...
Bought my son (who is 15) one for us to work out all the kinks on while he continues to learn to drive.
Needed a new radiator, done, sort of...
Wouldn't start to test radiator, battery charged back up, still nothing, starter was coated with layers of oil and much, replaced starter along with...
