The weather is looking good today, I'm excited.
Was thinking of getting there around 5:30 or so to maybe grab a bite to eat, take some dramamine, and then head onto the boat around 6:15 or 6:30 to grab a good spot. Time for a little pre-fishing nap.
I think I'm going early to check out the roof deck (and get my drink on) while there's still a good amount of sunlight out, presuming good weather occurs that day. I don't think we should deviate from the original plan of the monthly meet up from Wednesday though, and with that said, maybe...
I'm going to say it's still on Saturday night until further notice.
Accuweather report suggests possible thunderstorm probability at 25% at 7pm and 10pm, so unless I see one solid 4 hour block of thunderstorms, to me that means scattered showers. Plus, we'll more than likely be 30 to 40...
Ok. after doing some networking, I've narrowed it down to two boats, Brooklyn VI and Capt. Dave.
Brooklyn VI
Times: 7pm - 3/4am
Cost: $55 + $5 rod, price may change
Capt. Dave
Times: 7pm - 12am
Cost $45 all inclusive, price may change.
As far as size, the Brooklyn VI is the bigger boat...
I still refer back to Augie754's website about cigar terminology. Linky. To me, it makes the most sense, although as far as the sense of smell is concerned, mine are different based on the origins of the stimulus.
Odor is the smell of the cigar in it's unlit state, as it naturally releases...
Ok, thinking about doing it on the Brooklyn VI
Total price is coming out to be $60 - $55 for the passage, $5 for the rod.
According to the site the boat leaves at 7pm and comes back around 3-4am.
Also finalizing it to take place on Saturday, August 30th.
I'll give them a call Monday to see...
I totally forgot, that boat left some bad memories for me though, so I was hoping for a different charter, seeing as how they all traverse similar waters. The boat we went on last time was very dirty, and for some reason, Dan and I didn't get any bites at all, everyone else was pulling in...
Just thought I'd throw this out there.
When: Either the 29th or 30th of August, still debating on best day to go.
Time: Will be a night trip, yes looking for blues and/or stripers
Where: Sheepshead Bay. Last time Dan and I went from here, there were blues as big as your thighs!!
Cost...
I don't particularly enjoy raining on anyone's parade, but something about this organization doesn't seem right. I am emailing them with a list of questions, and I hope for some positive answers.
But some other things are piquing my curiosity...
Corona Cigar Co. claims they are a non-profit...
I'm down for the late trip. My +1 is still not definite yet, but depending on his work schedule, can make the late trip as well.
Any restrictions on the boat as far as food, drinks, and smoking? Is there a catch limit?
A veteran cuban smoker told me one time "When it's good, it's good. I often smoke through a box of Cohibas full of construction problems, draw issues, and flavourless moments just to get to that last 25th cigar that actually tastes good." He said it with a smile and glowed with pride about it...
Ok, in light of the upcoming fishing herf, I'm interested in smoking blue fish and stripes. But a few questions about these fish in general as I've never tried smoking fish yet.
1) Can I use any wood to smoke them?
2) Are they able to be cold smoked (lox style)?
3)If they can be cold smoked...
