I'm starting a small collection of functional pipes and plan to spend $300 to $500 to start. Would you buy several pipes in the $100 range or maybe one or two for $200 plus? On one hand, that is nothing for a handmade pipe, but as far as my wife is concerned, it is a ridiculous amount for a...
I started smoking pipes again after a long lay off. I quit a number of years ago because they were inconvenient while travelling and commuting.
Smoking anything (except weed, lol) is now so politically incorrect, that it is inconvenient to smoke anywhere, so I figured I might as well pick up...
Actually, Cpprhead, mentioned in passing using Frost King Rope caulk in another post in this forum. I might have given up if I hadn't perused his post.
Just read over this thread. Really enjoyed your experiment. Might have to build one in the future myself. As of now I'm doing a fridge. Hopefully it will turn out nice as yours.
Hopefully, it will turn out nicer. Checked the RH tonight. It's now holding rock steady at 64% RH for 72 hours...
OK, I broke up a few old cigar boxes, rubbed them down with distilled water, put in few empty boxes and began the seasoning process last week.
I used a new sponge and wetted it down with distilled water and put in an OPEN plastic sandwich bag. I put some beads in a disposable plastic zip lock...
You can start with a desktop but know that if you like the hobby, you will be getting a larger one. But that isn't a big deal. I use my Kool-Adore and 400 ct humidor to rest and condition, and use the desktop as my ready-to-smoke humidor.
If you do get a desktop, I have one recommendation...
1. For the cedar, just use one of your old cigar boxes.
2. The Caliber 3 or 4 hydrometer seems popular and works for me. Check the CP vendor section - one of the businessmen that supports CP can likely help you.
3. Depends on the tube you use. Wouldn't let anything moist directly touch the...
Sounds like a good idea. As Vortex and BBS suggested, I dry boxed mine for a day and the draw was better but one was definetely on the edge of needing firs aid. . At this point, I'm just going to rest them for 6 to 8 months.. I don't want to wast anymore sticks
Out of my sampler, I smoked 5. Three were excellent, one disgusting, the last seemed as if it were on the edge of getting sick. So, I'm resting the balance, probably until the winter holidays. 8 months enough time?
The most important thing to check is the seal. The rustic barnwood stuff looks great but the lids don't provide the seal that you would get with an igloo style plastic cooler. I would call and ask if the seal is good enough to make the woosh sound. The Coke cooler probably would work.
Having...
I think the Oliva Series are terrific smokes for the money. They would be in my top 10 no matter the price - or maybe not, since I haven't smoked all the $15 plus ceegars.
I'm getting into a bad habit of smoking during my commutes. I spend an hour+ each way in what is officially the nation's...
