The Discontinuation Draft List for 2009

For sure! I've been keeping a spreadsheet for almost that long, tracking the "to be discontinued" lists that pop up every year. Perhaps they do this to promote sales. On the other hand, they really did stop production of one of my personal favorites, the Partagas Churchills De Luxe and boxes...

    Why ISOM's suck

Gee, after that title, it's nice to know that you are not 100% sure of that "Suck" claim. Maybe you are refering to the "ISOM" brand of cheap Honduran cigars sold by JR Tobacco but I'm guessing that you are simply trying use a hip way to refer to Cuban cigars, even though the...

    Back from Cuba!...Pictures updated.

Interesting. ??? Are you sure that your "Canadian" credit card is not actually on an American bank-like Citibank- or one of the many Mastercards (the majority) that are actually linked to a US clearing centre? Many of us who visit regularly have few problems with credit cards drawn on Canadian...

    Habanos for the Spainish market

    An interesting Canadian article

My mistake. I don't know the retailers mentioned and assumed incorrectly that they were offshore. For personal reasons, I don't import from online vendors to avoid import duties and tax. My apologies to all. Commander Bob PS The article is STILL from November 4, 1997 CB

Are we discussing CUBAN CIGAR RETAILERS here now? Commander Bob With the rule staring me in the face as I type.

    An interesting Canadian article

My first comment is that the linked piece is from a 1997 CBC bit. Things have changes quite a bit since 1997 and our BOTL outside of Canada should regard any price or retailer quotes in light of the 11 years of "progress" in the cigar industry. Those of you who missed the original Marketplace...

    Bolivar Petit Corona

It will doubtless depend on the individual boxes. Like most cigars, YMMV. At the moment, my Dec 2005 Boli PCs are blowing the doors off my Sep 2003 Monte 4s in every way -burn, draw, flavour and consistency are all better with the Bolivars but I'm still happy with the Montecristos. And the Aug...

    Had my first ISOM tonight

If you thought your Quintero was good, wait until you taste something a bit more upscale, like Partagas or Bolivar. Commander Bob So many good cigars, so little time.

    My first gifted ones...

Not a commonly faked cigar, but if you bought them from the "parallel market", they might not be as advertised. - Seals ES 388351 and ES 388350 -it's almost impossible to buy boxes that have consecutive serial numbers. Not impossible but highly unlikely. Add to that consecutively numbered...

    More advancement in Cuba!

If you ever strolled along 5ta. Av. in Miramar, between the clock and the well-known Casa del Habano at night, :whistling: you will already have encountered "Counterfeit Cubans" -all those lovely young things who are trying hard to convince the unaware tourist that they are Hot Havana Honeys...

    Habanos for the Spainish market

I missed the start of this thread because I was IN SPAIN and not checking the boards. It seems to have degenerated into a rant about Habanos sources so I won't mention the new 2008 prices in Spain (up another 5% as of April) or the reduced prices on some brands and sizes (like Sancho Sancho)...

Cuba puts first computers on sale to the public

One thing I did notice recently was how many Cubans were now staying at resorts in Varadero. At least there were lots of skinny white guys with Cuban girls. Used to be that kind of thing was rarely seen unless a non-Cuban guy had a Cuban family and brought them in on a foreign passport...

    nice try... but no cigar

The earliest box in my own database that has an IA prefix is Aug-2006 but I also see IB prefixes from April and May of 2006 as well as Aug. All the IT prefixes I see are indeed from Mar 2006. My earliest 2007 codes are IE prom June but I also see some IN and IO prefixes. In general terms, the...

    Cigar Bands

At the H. Upmann and La Corona factories recently visited, they used a flour/water paste just like Gandma used to make for us to stick stuff in our scrapbooks. Commander Bob Still sticking things in scrapbooks but now I use a gluestick.

    Progression in the Cuban Govt.

That's true for so many things in Cuba; is it not? Commander Bob

    Progression in the Cuban Govt.

Nope. They pay in Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC), the tourist currency rather in Cuban Pesos (CUP) AKA Moneda Nacional. They get paid in CUP however so finding CUCs to pay for things like mobile phones is an ongoing struggle. The last time I changed some CUC to CUP I got 24 CUP/CUC. Even a $50...

    Progression in the Cuban Govt.

Yeah Derrek; they used to check my phone to see if it worked but not for several years now. "One" of the guys on our November trip (remember Scottie's pal Paul?) had his FIDO (GSM) phone and kept getting "Hope you are having a swell time in Cuba" type messages all the time. he was REALLY hoping...
