With 50/50 solution can I achieve 60 or 65rh. Or will I have to use something else? Mine about 69rh right now.

Heres another question: The more sticks I add, will I need to add more solution

Another Solution question: Typically speaking How long should a little bottle of 50/50 last?

Using the solution you will usually maintain 70% RH
Make sure you calibrate your hygrometer!

Get Beads and use distilled H2O only, it'll make you happier and less stressed in the long run.

I initially went the solution route, but after reading this board for a couple weeks, went with Viper's beads. So much easier to use. Definitely check them out.

Beads or Puck.
Distilled H20.
Smoke, Enjoy, don't stress about humidity...because you know it's OK.
Repeat.

Initially - maybe. If the sticks are not moist - they will suck up the moisture...so, you will need more solution. If they are moist - then obviously no.

The more sticks you have in a humi the better. The sticks will actually help keep the level up and stable.

<so, I've been told....and so I've seen>

The problem is the humidor. If it does nto have a great seal all around...then it may suck up more fluid then one with a tight seal.

I have 2 Diamond Crown humi's - one can maintain 68-70% for a much longer period <w/o adding distilled H20> than the other. The both have the same system and I've even swapped them around...still one holds moisture better! Oh - and they bothe have similar numbers of smokes!

I use the Diamond Crown humidification units that came with the humi's.

If I set up one that does have a humi. unit....then -----> Distilled H20 and beads!!

The problem with the PG solution is that PG is a chemical that binds to water molecules and happens to have a RELEASE point of 70% RH.

That's great if you need to raise your RH to 70% but it has little to no absorbtion properties.

Further more, as you continue to add distilled water to the green floral foam that is impregnated with the PG, you eventuall wash away the PG all together.

So, if you combine the fact(s):
PG will not efficiently regulate your RH. Because it's only designed to release water vapor, may over humidify your smokes which can/does create draw, burn and flavor problems.

It is a slimy, messy solution which could be disasterous god forbid you spill on your smokes

The possibility that you may eventually wash away it's ability to raise RH

Doesn't efficiently lower spikes in RH

Your best bet is definitely The Puck or RH Beads. They are simple as pie to use and last a lifetime.

Hope this helps

I think what Mark is trying to say is PG sucks. You got to be a damn chemical engineer to make that stuff work.

Prior to this year, I used PG solution exclusively with good results. But then I hold an MS in Chemical Engineering. :p

I have switched over to silica gel (kitty litter) that I condition myself.

I still use little tubs of PG solution when I need to make a big humidity adjustment. Other than that, I don't even keep silica in two of my 48qt coolers.
