I've been thinking about adding a new item to the Hillbilly Steaks arsenal, but I wanted to get a little feedback on it first.

Where I live I have nearly unlimited access to good cooking woods such as Hickory and Red/White Oak. These are fantastic to use for cooking and are limited to certain areas of the country. So I'm thinking about starting to sell boxes of the wood. I would more then likely sell them per flat rate shipping box. Since the flat rate boxes are limited to size and not weight, you'd get as much as I could pack into a flat rate box, for a fee which will have to be determined.

you guys get the jist of it.

I'm even doing a poll for this one. For the purpose of the poll, lets say use an example.

1 box of Hickory strips. 1 Full flat rate box. $18 + the $8 shipping costs.

By the way, the wood is cut in rectangular sections that average probably 1 x 3 inches. It can be burned by itself or added to charcoal for that great wood flavor.

I use smoke whenever I BBQ, which is almost every weekend. I buy a steady supply of hardwoods I can't always get locally. We have tons of sugar maple & apple but I buy all of my pecan, coffee, peach and old Jack Daniels barrels from the web. I usually pay $8-$12 for about 8 lbs of chunks.

If you have local fruit woods we should talk.

Fish

i can buy all that species of wood chips at my local wal-mart or home depot here in dallas. it would depend if you were competitive with them on price.

I think it's a great idea. Whenever I'm visiting my wife's dad in San Antonio he's always cooking with mesquite that he gets from his cousin on a farm or something. Smells great, tastes great. Go with it.

I'm going to have to look into it pretty closely. I know that this stuff is available at wally world etc, but I'm guessing that I can beat their prices etc.

thanks for the opinions so far and there will be more to come on this!

I cook with Woods all the time. My oldest is getting pretty good at it. The young one is still a little too short to be around the stove safely.

Oh you meant the other wood. ;)

In general, I would love to learn a little more about bbq. I am a huge fan of ribs but some lady fell asleep at the wheel and drove through the rib shack. She finally stopped when she banked at the road on the opposite side of the shack. Huge shame, me hungry. Is there anything I can do on a small time basis just to get to get into to it a little bit? I don't think I can do them much justice, as I will not have much space anytime soon. No harm in asking. Your idea sounds neat. I always enjoy buying from places other than Wal-Mart.
