Advice for a new comer

I have recently started smoking cigars. I have not had a chance to try a whole lot yet or even look up alot of them yet. I was hoping to get some advice on a coming home cigar. Myself and a couple friends are looking for a cigar to smoke when we get back in the states from Iraq. I was wondering if i could get some peoples opinions on Good cigar no more than $50 each. And it cannot be Cuban cause we will be carrying it back threw customs. Looking for a smooth smoke, med to full bodied. Thanks for the help

I would go with anything Padron '26 or '64.

They are really good cigars that are pretty easily available and cost quite a bit less than your $50 limit.

Ahem... mind if I ask you some questions?

1. Do cigars or cigar bands contain metal?
2. Have you ever been stripped searched by TSA?
3. If you have been, did you give them a reason to do so?
4. Have you ever been put through an x-ray machine by the TSA?
5. Did you know the little beagles in airports are set off by apples (in addition to other meat and fruit)?

Just some things to ponder...

I wouldn't trust any Cubans you might get over in Iraq, too many fakes floating around from what I hear, so you're probably better off not buying any (unless you get the chance to stop by a good tobacconist in Germany or elsewhere in Europe before you get home). I'm not sure what sort of cigars you can find over there that aren't Cuban, but anything made by Arturo Fuente is a good bet and I know they sell overseas in some places.

The Military Police and Navy Customs open up everything when you redeploy...TSA is a walk in the park compared to those guys.

I'll take care of these guys over here, as long as they get me their information.

I will go the other direction and tell you to go with any of the high end Fuentes. If you are a novice the Padrons may kick your ass and IMHO you need to have a more refined palet to enjoy the 64 and 26, hell I can't smoke em yet Fuentes are a lot easier on the wallet as well.

I would highly recommend any of the AVO line of cigars, especially the 787. Great tasting mild-medium bodied smokes, and they won't bankrupt you!

Not sure, Doc. I go over at least twice a year and never have any problems. BUT, with that said, I am not traveling with a PLT/CO/BN size element, Me or my guys are not in uniform, and get my sticks in Qatar when I get them. Besides that, I am a shady character.
