I think you hit the nail on the head AVB. I think a lot of forums have this problem too.

Way too much time on my hands. I checked out the first 150 members that are listed alphabetically and 60% have fewer than 5 posts. ???

Yes definately we must get rid of deadwood like SD_Stack who has not posted since May 9th and leebo-8-9-8 who has only made one post in about the last two months. While we're at it, let's get rid of snakeeyezzes and Smokin'Tone too. Read both of those guy's last few posts and see if you think they still should be purged.

Running a poll for only two days and getting 64 responses it acutally quite high for a board this size and the average member here does not check the board every day or two like the 64 of us who voted in the poll ;)

Triming the members seems good in the sense that the total number of members is acurate. But in reality, it also inadvertantly punishes those who can't contribute very often. Each deletion would have to be on a case by case basis. And I am pretty sure Rod doesn't have the time nor energy to go through and look at everyone. I think the poll did pretty good considering it has only been up for 3 days, and those 3 days are over a long weekend.

I'm not talking about people with a history and you should know that. Dig a little and you'll see there are over 400 members WITH 0 POSTS Almost another 200 with one post. Just over half the membership are here in name only and most likely won't be heard from again.

I still see no reason to dump them. In my case, I joined 6/18/03 and didn't start posting until over two months later. There are other people who enjoy membership, lurk and seldom if ever post, why purge them? Some of us have invited people from other boards to sign up here and while they may be inactive now, ya never know, they may just decided to become active here at some point. Making them sign up again and again doesn't seem right to me.

and NO I didn't know that, I'm not a mind reader.

When this topic has come up in the past, some people advocated purging the membership rolls of people who hadn't contributed recently for instance in the last six months or so because in their mind, they were deadwood regardless of their total post count.

I can see a combo of no posts or 1 post and a year's time. If you haven't signed in in a year you probably don't remember the sign in anyway. I give you the example of bryan_h who forgot not only his password but his original username too! You can lurk and read all you want without being a member and wouldn't have to sign up "again and again". Clear out the deadwood.

Both of you have good points. I say if they joined and are lurkers, then to post in a couple of threads to say, "hey i'm still here". If they're looking then they can post too.

Hey let me wheel the chair up to the computer and put on my bifocals so I can see the damn screen LMAO ........

you youngins have a grand ole time in store for you! I am 47 and just like Tony still a kid at heart if I can just get the knees to stop crackin everytime I get up.

Don't purge the member list to deep alot of guys are out there they may just be lurkin or just not able to post. I speak from experience since I have been away for awhile, since my Dad has been laid up in the hospital.

I wouldn't purge them, at all. But it would be nice if the Member List could be sorted by Date of last post, that would make it nicer for looking for currently active members, without having to weed through the rest.
