I know, ordering with Thompsons is crazy! I had a feeling that much of negatives they get are from a bunch of bandwagoners and those trying to get street credit on forums. Don't get me wrong though, there are those of you who are can justly say that they suck.
As it would turn out, my father has been ordering pipe tobacco from Thompsons since his college days with no problem. My uncle orders Thompson brand cigars, and although I don't like them all that much (with the expection of the Sonador) he's never had a problem with ordering cigars, humidor, and cutters. He's been ordering for 20 years!
So, I placed my order on this item South of the Border Humidor. I need a personal humidor (I'll finally stop using my fathers) for college in a few weeks and this would work perfect. Plus, it comes with 25 cigars of pretty high quality and relative ease for someone who's only been into cigars a couple of years. These will last me till atleast the yule season.
Here's the review on Thompsons. Their customer service sucks. This is the flat out truth. When one calls to complain, inquire, or just talk they are left with ONLY a machine, which is at best limited. Another problem was, I never recieved an email confirmation that my order completed leaving me lost as to whether I would even get anything. However, I did get through to customer service to find three days later that the order was processing. Cool. The order came almost 3 weeks later. To be honest, I couldn't be much more happier with it. The only complaint I have is that they did a messy job putting the Thompson logo on it, and there are some ugly glue stains. But, I'm practicle, not picky, so I'm satisfied.
I just finished seasoning the humidor after 4 days and loaded it up. It claims to hold, I believe 50, but it is housing about 40 of mine now. Always, a note of caution, purchase a higher number than you think you'll need. I'm pleased with my humidors (it's only going to be used for 4 years) performance, quality, look, and the great cigars that came with it. The cigars were worth the price alone and all of them came in great condition!
