Hello all,

Over the last year-and-a-half, I have become a fan of the single serve coffee brewing systems. I have owned & used the Melitta One:One Pod Brewer; and the Juan Valdez pod brewer. The two systems are very similar systems, however, I prefer the Juan Valdez over the Melitta because it is a bit more accepting of various pods and comes with a larger water reservoir. All in all a good cup of coffee or tea from either machine.

I tried coffee at a store demo from the Phillips Senseo and did not like it, too weak for me. However, the Senseo units are very popular, just not my cup of coffee, so to each their own.

What I'd consider the "next generation" of these single serve systems has begun to hit the store shelves, and I am intrigued by the Braun Tassimo which was released in the US in September, and earlier in Europe.

I realize that none of these systems provides the cheapest cup of coffee. (about $145 for the brewer and about $.35 to $.50 a cup) It is more for convenience and variety. That, and I'm a bit of a bleeding edge technology gadget collector. The coffee/tea/cappuccino/espresso discs are a currently a bit limited compared to others systems, however, in the past as the systems become a bit more popular, the variety of discs/pods generally become cheaper and more varied.
So I was just curious if any one here has any experience with the Tassimo?
TIA

This is wierd, I just went to the Bank and they had free coffee. One of these machines. HERE I'm drinking it right now and it is not bad at all. Easy as hell to use and 2 seconds to brew.

They also have home machines.

I have a double cup Senseo that I received last year for christmas and I have it here in my office at work. I dont use the senseo pads in it though. I buy the cheaper german ones from our local supermarket for it and they work fine... the german coffee blend is alot stronger

Shawn, I've tried numerous variations of pods from private boutique places and from the major manufacturers. Some good, some not. I buy most of my pods from a place called Coffe-for-less, they run 20% off coupons regularly, and offer free shipping for orders over $100. Actually, that is one of the things that I liked about my Juan Valdez brewer, it has a universal pod holder, so it accepts pods for many of the different pod manufacturers. Actually when I was considering a Senseo, what attracted me to it was the possibility of a reusable pod type device. Eventually I concluded it would be more trouble than it was worth to me...

I have the Nespresso espresso machine. I love it. I have a bunch of the different types of espresso, it's fast and easy, and keeps me well caffeinated!

I hate to say it, but I consider myself somewhat of a coffee snob, more so then any other 'material' that I consume and collect. I haven't even thought one second about these.

But Im also the type that will some times go to extreme lengths to get coffee that's hard to find... that and I use 2 tbsp per cup. I can't imagine these would produce the nice, thick, black goo that I like.

That's my opinion, I would like to hear otherwise on these though, they do seem like a great concept. I had to get a new coffee maker with a 1-4 cup option, since the most I brew at a time is 4 cups... and the 12 cup wasn't giving me optimal performance.

How's the flavor/richness of these? It would be fun to get one at the work place.

You control the amount of water used in the Nespresso, and I make myself a nice triple ristretto when I really nead a kick in the ass. I make my regular coffe 2 tbsp/cup, too, when I use beans.
The only problem is that triple ristretto costs 1.50 to make. SO be it. If my hobies teach me nothing, it is the value of pleasure. Hell, a 1.50 cup of coffee to enjoy with a 15 dollar cigar...sounds reasonable, no?

I agree, I also tend to prefer my coffee a bit stronger than most, and the current line-up of these (first generation) is a bit of take or leave it as it as to controling the brewing settings. However, one of the interesting details of this Tassimo, at least according to my understanding of the info on their their website, is the ability to re-program the settings for water quantity, temperature etc. So theoretically you could boost the strength. Don't know first hand, but it would be nice to if it worked like they said.

Thiswill be my next coffee maker. Its a stovetop cappuccino/espresso maker. I've been using the 6 shot stovetop espresso maker by the same manufacturer for a couple of years now, and it works great. But I've always been partial to cappuccino.
My little brother has a pod system, and it works well, but my stovetop maker is much better.

MonkeyK - I've never seen one of those? Pretty wild looking.

I went ahead and took the plunge on the Tassimo - its ordered, probably won't see it for a while. I'll keep everyone posted on my first impressions.

Thought I'd post a bit of review of my Tassimo hot beverage system.

I've been using it for about two weeks now and it makes a great cup of coffee. I haven't been tempted to use my old POD brewers since I received my Tassimo. The only problem I've had is keeping a stock of the T-Discs. I suppose with Christmas and the launching of a new product the T-Discs are out of stock at a lot of vendors. I've managed to try a few of the flavors and have enjoyed them all. My favorites would be the Gevalia Signature Blend and their Signature Crema. My son and wife enjoy the hot chocolate and the cappuccino. The espresso has a very good flavor, but not quite as good as my espresso machine, however, certainly more convenient.

All in all, I'm very happy with it and would not hesitate buying it as a gift for any techno/coffee lover.

Thread necro:

I am looking to buy one of the newer Tassimo makers, you still happy with yours? Or were you when you moved on to the next big thing?

I had the Senseo with the hot milk dispenser and loved it! But I could get pretty strong pods in Belgium, had to give it up due to moving back to the states

I was checking out their machines, when do you pour in the milk for a pod of cappuccino and how do you keep that area clean so you don't end up tasting spoiled milk on your next batch?
