Anyone tried the new R&J in the red metallic tubes?

Had one the other day from a friend and was wondering A) What they are called exactly and how much they can be had for. Great cigar, probably a 54 ring and had a limitada band as well.

Any help is much appreciated.

thnx

this one?? if so its the habana version.

I was at the B&M the other day. I almost bought one of them, but the lady who worked their told me that their not worth the $. I think they were starting out at $18. But I dont know, everyone enjoys different cigars, she did tell me it had a really grassy taste!!

There have been no Edicion Limitada released as tubos. If you saw such a band on a tubed RyJ, you've got a fake...and I might want one. :p

I haven't tried them, but I found some RyJ Ed.Limitada tubos online:

No 2 Tube 6.125 x 52 Natural

Prominente Tube 6 x 54 Natural

Rothschild Tube 5 x 54 Natural

Which apparently look like this (only one site that I saw actually had pictures):

Ah,

I forgot that the NC cigar industry has also adopted the EL labeling approach.

I just picked one up from my local on Tuesday. I can't wait to try it, The guy at my B&M says he really likes them and people have been buying a lot of them (and no it wasn't just a sales pitch, I already had one in hand when he told me :D )

I'm going to try to smoke it within a week, if I can I'll take a few notes and post a review.

Do let us know how it smokes. I've tried the prior RyJ tubed piramides (the Numero Dos and Petit Numero Dos) and while they smell delightful with a unique blackcurrant scent, they smoked like utter crap.

I had one from my local B&M last Friday. I'll first say that in no way is it an $18 cigar. First half inch was of wet grass. I attribute it to being a tad moist with minimal age. Further it turned to notes of espresso and walnut. About 3" there was so much tar at the head that I put it down.

It rather reminded me of a Davidoff thousand series. My tobaccanist said that the owner of the chain liked them better than the Jose Seijas. I would disagree hands down. There is absolutely no spice and is nowere near as smooth as a Seijas. For me its a meduim bodied cigar.

$18 is about 3x what this cigar should go for. Its simply not worth it.

YMMV

on edit: Its a RyJ Edicion Limitada. Mine was a 6x54 "Prominente"

according to the guy at my B&M this is a limited release... so it is hard to believe that they sold a BUNCH of them. My B&M has a lot of hard to find stuff in stock and they only had a few of these. As for the taste i have never tried one. but the fact that the merchant told you he sold a bunch would have made me a little suspicious. i think there are only 4 in a box

I trust my guy so if he says they were selling many of them I'll believe him. They did have a good number of them at the store, I can't really say how many but it was defiantly more that a few.

I had one last weekend whilst watching the Cotto vs. Judah debaucle with Roy R. Frush at the Cigar Inn in NYC. They were only charging $10.50 (odd since they have high mark-ups in general due to location and rent) and found it to be a rather bland. I personally did not notice any grassy flavors, but I did also notice that it was rather moist and it became kind of loose and soft towards the last half. I cannot really say much for the flavor profile, as not only was it nondescript, I also had smoked a 2005 OpusX immediately prior. Of course anything after that was not even going to phase me.
