I have been feeling kind of sorry for myself with my job going south the last few months...................Tonight I am watching American Idol Gives Back.
Watching these African Children Whose parents have died from AIDS, being forced to grow up at such a young age. Living in ghettos. Or, Americans that can not read, living in poverty.
I feel ashamed for not realizing how lucky I am. I have my health, and a roof over my head. My family is safe and, well cared for with full stomachs tonight.
If you see this episode tonight..........................
Give what you can or, at least thank your lucky stars that you are lucky like my family.

Edited to say: Hug your children if you have not lately and, thank God if you have a place to come home too.

Yep, it's a good show. 30 million raised so far....makes you feel like the luckiest person in the world.

I haven't seen it, but what you just said should make each of us that read it take a long look at ourselves and realize that we are lucky. Well put John.....you certainly turned my attention from material things I want to more important things that I already have. Thanks for the post Bro.

We could all have it good...well, maybe not good but at least have no poverty. Very simple, take half the amount spent on
unnecessary wars and channel that to the needy... every family in the world (starting with the US) could have a home and food every single day.
Not to mention education, health services etc.

Don't worry, there will still be half left for the war happy folk

What a crazy world we live in. Why can't we ALL conduct ourselves with passion, compassion and generosity to firstly, the needy people in the US
and then spill it over to the world, we do it to and for each other every day on a little cigar forum ??? ???

That was one of the things I mentioned last to my wife. "It does not make sense to me that we have money for war but, we can't even take care of our own right here in the states." My wife and I even made mention of adopting one of those parentless African children......................... What do you want to bet that it would cost a fortune.

Good observations Brian.

we definitely have it very good relative to the majority on this planet.

I watched it and there were a few times where this funny wetness started to develop around my eyes. Not sure what that was all about.

Anyway, donation sent to help those less fortunate, both in this country and in Africa.

You're a good man Jim!.......................................Among many on this site. This is why I come here, the generosity / brotherhood is contagious.

My wife and I often have conversations about what we can do on both a global and local scale. Often, we come to no real conclusions. We give pretty generously, but still feel like we could be doing more. I took the value of the cigars I have smoked this month, and she took her hair and nails budget, and we sent it to the American Idol folks. It is mildly sickenening to think what the value of one good DAY's worth of smokes can do for the life of someone in desparate need. then again, it is mildly encouraging to know that we can do it, and so many others can as well.

Watched it last night and it was very hard to watch. It's one thing to "know" these circumstances exist, but it's another to actually see them.
