While up w/ the daughter this morning at 2am, I started to wonder something. I know there are tons of hobbies out there and I'm sure there are just as many boards as well. But, I couldn't think of any other hobby where so many people exchange/trade with others. I could maybe see a beer/liquor board, where members traded a beer or a bottle of liquor. There could also be special releases of bourbons or other alcohol, but not on the same scope as here or other cigar boards and it got me thinking.

Are there any other hobbies/boards where members trade as much as cigar boards?

Stamps, or baseball cards maybe......but I am not involved in any of them.

Guitar gear forums trade as much (maybe more). I couldn't afford to hang around those boards too much. Many of those guys go through $30,000 or more of gear in a year's time. My budget couldn't hang with them.

Well, Lucifer did start out up there and the name does mean "light bearer." So that explains the "goodness and light" tagline.

Running the risk of keeping this discussion on-track, I think there are a few hobbies where the internet boards TRADE as much as we do.

I was really into 'German-style' board games for a bit and the people at boardgamegeek.com do A LOT of trading, including running crazy multi-threaded drafts and complex algorithmic trades. Also a lot of the car forums have really helpful member who will offer tools or space and knowledge to do work and mods on your ride.

But NEVER, in all my years of geeking out on the internet, have I found as generous a group as those on cigar boards in general and CP in specific. I can't imagine any other internet locals where high-valued gifts are sent out, unsolicited, on a daily basis.

We rock!

Anyone know of circles where the bartered item are used panties? I'm currently interested in acquiring some unmentionables from certain celebrities, namely Elizabeth Taylor, Paula Abdul, and Britney Spears (these are rare now). Evidence of marinara stains will result in an added bonus to the finder's fee. LMK. ;)

Certainly adds some "spice" to the forum when he graces us with his witty comments...now my day is complete and I can sleep.
In answer to Mable's original question, er, I mean Betsy...R/C airplanes will suck you out of some $$$ as well as real airplanes, photography too.

Cars. I'm a member of a Mazda forum and while things run a little different due to the expense and it is cars your talking about, its pretty much the same. There are group buys for a certain item people want for their Mazda. There are trades and then there are vendors just like we have here. The one thing they do have there that we don't have here is a Pay it Forward thread. Everything is free. you offer up something someone might need and if someone needs it they offer up something else. Its actually pretty fun.

The bourbon forums do some trading around of sample bottles but nothing like is done here with cigars. However, when you have a meeting face to face people offer up some seriously exceptional bottles so that end may exceed a herf with an equal number of participants.
