Are these real?

I'd say not authentic based on Moki's reasons.

We can debate the authenticity or not all day long, but especially for the newer guys among us, do not overlook Wilkey's excellent point:

My advice is to smoke em. If you like them, then hooray! If you don't, then toss them out but never pass these or gift these to any other CigarPass member. Ever.

Wilkey
Unless you are 106% sure that your source is legitimate (and it this case you are certainly not sure), the responsible thing to do is to never allow these out in the trading or even gifting pool, as they say.

It doesn't diminish the fact that someone spent some $$ to try to bring you what they believed to be a nice gift.

Can you really fake the taste of a cuban? Im curious. if so, how.
It's easier than you think. Take the bands off and even very experienced smokers have a hard time telling what the smoke is. Witness the Evil Dr. Moki's Blind Taste Test Thread. Throw a decent looking label on them and you can see how it's very, very easy to be deceived.

Worst case, fakes get out into circulation and get traded or sold and then reputations and friendships get damaged.

This is easy to prevent.....if we are all responsible, always honest, and always consider our fellow BOTL's.......

Edited to add - from the linked thread, I think mrjinglesusa hits the nail on the head, squarely:

My rule is to NEVER sell, trade, pass, or gift ANY cigar that I did not purchase from a known, verified vendor myself. I also make it a rule to not purchase "those" cigars from anyone unless I have personally used the source they got them from. Even then, those would not be sold, traded, passed, or gifted. If I am gifted one of "those" cigars, I have designated trays that are for these cigars of unknown provenance. These gifted a cigars, are never sold, traded, gifted, or passed.

Thanks Budday!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I would never pass these off. I would however be willing to send one out to someone willing to put their experienced .02 in on the taste.
