Atkins Diet

Been on it for 6 months and lost the 20 pounds I need to. Staying with it as I want to stay at the weight I'm at. I found it easy with no problems. Does get a bit boring but there are enough foods out now that are low carb along with lord knows how many lo carb websites to keep it interesting.

My only concern about trying it is cutting out beer. It's football season. And hockey season. How do you guys not drink beer?

Actually the only beer I can partly handle is Miller Lite or Mich Ultra or Corona...but my opinion on beer is..it sucks ass...I usually shoot Jose or Jager when I go out...or smoke cigars...sometimes a blow job shot if I want something with a milky/sweet taste...but for the most part beer sucks ;)

Well most everyone knows I had gastric bypass surgery so the diet I follow is a little different than most...but I still get in my protein and veggies first when I can...then carbs. Carbs tend to make me a little sick so I don't eat as many of those as I once did. Sugars don't sit well in my system so I don't do too many of those either...

On sugar busters, my folks did really well...Protein and veggies first...and no white starches...only grain breads, wheat bread, sweet potatoes, and if they did anything in flour they used wheat flour...they lost a ton of weight...

Ya, protein is cool.................

Just not the carbs, LMAO!!

I just started on it about 3 weeks (g/t) now. I've only lost about 11 lbs, but my lifestyle hasn't changed a bit- except I eat MORE now than I did before. I never ate breakfast and hardly ever ate lunch, now I'm eating 3 meals a day and still losing weight. If I actually excercised I'd probably shed pounds faster.

So far, I think this is EASILY the best and easiest "diet" plan I've ever been on. Where else can you eat all the BBQ ribs, sliced brisket, pork, whip cream, diet root beer and PORK RINDS! you can handle????? :p :D

Long live Dr Atkins (oh wait... ooops... sorry- may he rest in peace)

First of all here is Atkin's Official Website which you all should definitely check out. Tons of helpful info there. A few things I'd like to mention:

Induction (first two weeks of hard corp low carbing) is extremely important. If you want to be successful don't skip this crucial step. Follow it to the letter. It's only two weeks ;)

I highly recommend sticking to 20 grams or less even after induction until you reach your goal weight. Trust me, it works.

Water, water and more water! You gotta drink at least two quarts a day and 3 or even 4 is better. There are many reasons for this that I won't detail here but principal among them is your fat stores a lot of toxins and as you burn the fat the toxins are released into your system. Copious amounts of water remedy the situation by washing said toxins out of your system.

And the best news is there are tons of alternative low carb foods available now. The revolution is in full swing and there is no need to deprive yourself of most of your favorite foods anymore. There are breads, pastas, chips, chocolate, ice cream etc. The list goes on and on.

Don't use aspartame (nutrasweet). Best alternatives are sucralose (splenda) and Stevia. Aspartame will slow your fat burning big time. Don't ask me to explain it, I've seen it happen time and time again.

Here is a list of some of my favorite products that are low carb safe:

Diet V8 Splash
Walden Farms dressings and sauces (zero carb!)
Todd's Low Carb Breads and Bagels
Le Carb Ice Cream
Carb Smart Ice Cream (Breyers)
O So Lo Rolls and Sweet Rolls
Atkins Advantage Shakes
Carb Rite Protein Bars
La Tortilla

There are of course more but these are some of the best and my favorites.

I'm sure I'll think of more to bore you with later but this should suffice for now.

OK, now for the questions and answers portion of our program :D

Wow, I heard that diet was good, but you guys have sold me on it. I have about 20 pounds I want to lose.

By the way if you like light beer that Mich Ultra is great.

Good luck, first month is the toughest.
You're telling me ... one meal in and I'm already having problems :p

Very limited menu today, but not too bad. :)

I started this morning. So far (only one meal) so good.
I'm not doing too good on meal choices today, I should have planned a bit better ;)

What did you have?

This morning was scrambled Eggs w/ ham.

My wife and I sat down yesterday and printed out a bunch of meals from thier website and went shopping. We bought everything for the next 2 weeks and have it planned out.

Makes it much easier to stay on track.

Good luck. :)
