Awesome picture

Is it just me or do the planes look fake?

Something about the absolute blackness of the aircraft, plus the trails of smoke off the bomber that seems suspect.

This would be an easy thing to do in Photoshop, perhaps done to balance out the picture?

I'm not saying this operation never happened or anything btw (unlike the landing on the moon, we all know that's fake :sign: )

Cheers,
Rob

Well you got me I staged this in my pool!

Official USN photo posted on the official USAF website. But you never know, it is the goverment :whistling:

Here is an explanation from what I know of photography and aircraft...B52's, even the modern ones (I know, oxymoronic statement) are notorious for exhaust trails, as for the blackness of the bottom of the aircraft, well, there is a ton of light reflection on the bottom of the aircraft, which are typically painted light gray or white, it is this reflection and contrast to bright sky and water, and camera aperture that causes the silhouette effect. I don't know the physics behind this theory (Wilkey can prolly drum up a short thesis for us), but this same effect has happened to my while shooting the local airshow a few years back.

Oh, and by the way. I also believe it is photoshopped. Look at the bow wave on the sub in front on the right side of the picture -- it's cut and pasted in.

Still an excellent picture though.

I think you're wrong. The bow wave looks natural for a 15-20 knot speed to me.

We take pictures like these all the time. They never Photoshop anything. This is the raw, real deal folks. American power at it's finest. This exercise just concluded not a month ago off the coast of Guam. As one of you said earlier, just try and step to this. Heh. Oh, and thank you Tone-ey for fixing my goofed up link. One day the squid will figure out how to run a computer with something besides a rock. :p Haha. Glad you guys enjoyed this. :)
