Cigar Ambassador
Well, I'm back from Belize after 10 incredible days on Cayo Espanto. Everything about the trip was un-friggen believeable. The diving was the best I have EVER been on.The food was unreal...three course lunches and four course dinners specially prepared according to our tastes for 10 days.
And some of the greatest cigars in the world.
Started off with Montecristo Dunhill Seleccion Suprema # 2 - Late 70's. Wow. Just, wow. Thanks to George and Dave for making this happen. One of the greatest cigar exoeriences of my life. I smoked the cigar on the dock of my villa drinking some outstanding very old scotch (1951 Macallan), watching my lovely new wife swing in a hammock about 50 feet away from me...truly was one of the most amazing moments of my life.
Next day, WOAM...what else can I say that hasn't been said a million times. I've had a few now, and need more. Next time I see a box, it is being added to the collection.
I also brought a PAM principes, one of my favorite small smokes.
I only brought the three cigars because the island was supposed to have a fully stocked humidor, and the islad next to it was supposed to have a few good retail shops. Well, not a SINGLE real ISOM as far as I can tell, was to be had on either island. No triple caps, boxes were unmarked (or the "esplendidos" came in plastic bundles), unmatched wrapper colors. Ugh.
George...you said you had a friend in San Pedro....I wish I had contacted you/him ofr sources before I went. One of the walk ins was 90 degrees or so, and 85 ish % humidity. Beetles were walking around on the stock. Again, no triple caps, mismatched colors, no box codes, no tax stamps on the sealed boxes. The American tourists I met did not believe me, and bought them anyway, the fattest and nastiest of which told me that these are cuban "seconds" and that is why they are so cheap. "Seconds." Sure. Otherwise known as fakes.
back on the island, I did wind up (in desperation!) smoking one of the "esplendidos". It was not terrible. Band was SPOT ON, the cigar was a solid 5 or 6 dollar cigar, just not an Esplendido. Again, cap was all wrong, and the cigar smelled (and tasted) very mild.
Well, I'm off to the last dinner before I have to go back to work, gonna go toast the end of the honeymoon with a pitcher of Margaritas, get loaded, and come home and pass out. If I don't go to work with a little hangover tomorrow, I haven't done my job right.
Glad to be back fellas, I'm sure I'll have more to tell at some point soon.
