One of Cook Inlet's most active volcanoes, Mt. Augustine, has been showing signs of renewed life of late and recently started venting steam. This GINA satellite photo (dial-up warning: ~262K) shows the steam plume extending about 50 miles from Augustine.

Mt. Augustine is located about 180 miles SW of Anchorage and 70 miles SW of Homer, Alaska.

Hey Swissy...can you see it from your place down there?

No... I can't. But my sister's family is driving up from Homer this Friday, so I'm sure they'll be telling me about it. You can see Augustine clearly from my property in Homer, and from the road on the drive up.

Sorry.. just woke up! Yes, on a nice day, St. Augustine shows up very well, as does the start of the Aleutian Chain. I should make a trip down there with my camera and see if I can get a good shot...

Just remember who you're looking up to when you're talking, little person!
