I’m sitting here, cigar in hand, drinking McClelland’s 12yr sherry finished and chasing it with a Sam Adams Boston ale and wondering, does anyone, besides me, drink Boilermakers anymore. Are there no more real drinkers out there, those that appreciate a good shot and a beer? I still remember bars that only had three drinks, beer, whiskey and beer and whiskey. I can’t help but feel sorry for you guys. Do yourselves a favor, pour yourself a shot of your favorite whiskey or whisky draw nice heady brew and enjoy. You’ll thank me and remember me to your grandchildren.

Doc.

Some how, I'm not surprised by the lack of response. Bunch of flippin' snobs. Just remember, the high is the thing. With apologies to Billy S.

Doc my first legal drink was with my Dad and older brother in a bar in the Bowery in NYC it was colder than hell and it was the classic boilermaker! I felt no pain, but I haven't had the pleasure in quite a few years. The boys at the local VFW still have the classic every day so need to worry that it will be lost.

I've done it often, but just not given it the label. Do you ever do a depth charge? I can't remember my last, but think I'll be doing one in the near future, just for old time's sake.

I do love em! Especially with Single Barrel Jack.

Playing cards tonight, which means I will do a shot of bourbon and follow it with scotch.

I didn't even see this thread until now. Are you doing floaters? A shot glass of rye floating in your beer that you hammer down or just a shot with a beer back?

Nah, I just sip a shot and chase it with beer. From what I understand there are two types of boilermakers, the one you describe and the one I drink. A depth charge is when you drop the whole shot, shot glass and all in the mug of beer. I, personally, would rather mix them in my mouth.

I think that "boilermaker" has come to mean a shot DROPPED into something.

I tried to order a shot of Bourbon with a beer back a couple of months ago and the bartender looked at me like I was crazy. He reached for a bottle of Jack and quizzed me about the "beerback."

Needless to say I won't be going back there anytime soon.

Just had a shot of Knob Creek with a glass of Arrogant Bastard after reading this...Thanks for reminding me. I sipped the Knob Creek along with the beer.

Doc,

You should watch the Wire Season 2, all the union dock boys thrown down a shot of whiskey and then drink a beer...all of them. For breakfast, they show up at the bar, crack a raw egg in their beer and repeat.

Back in the day my best friend had a cabin on a local lake. We would take a keg...Drink all night...Get up the next morning and have scrambled eggs and beer for breakfast.

If you could not hang with that you did not make a return trip with us. :D

I'm with you, Doc. I (we) did the depth charges to show off for the civilians.

I prefer my seperate though I will have a glass of whiskey while drinking beer at the bar with my buddies. This thread reminded me of and Irish Car Bomb. It has been a long while, but I am going to have to have one of them soon.

Depth Charges were my choice in college, Wild Turkey and Foster's Lager.

Damn, you live the high life...all we get here in college is Beast Ice/Light...Bud Light on a good night.
