with the diabetes pills and trying to lose weight, my meals have gotten boring. does taste have to go out the window along with the calories? those sugar free snacks can go to hell as far as i'm concerned. what do you guys do for taste? TIA!

Same basic problem, my meals basically consist of a piece of chicken and a salad with no dressing. Not the best in terms of taste.

What I do to watch my weight and keep it under control is eat the same things I use too all the time except I only eat a 3rd of the portion at each sitting. This way I still eat the same stuff and cost me one 3rd as much. I hope this helps and everything turns out as planned........ :)

Seasoning. Simple things like cooking with more fresh herbs and light seasonings make all the difference. Salad? Instead of dressing use fresh vegatables and something simple like no-fat feta. Also switch from tastless iceberg lettuce to field greens or spinich. Here's an easy asian marinade for chicken - mix a teaspoon of lite soy and teaspoon of sesame, lite olive or canola oil. Add minced garlic and pepper to taste and a dime sized drop of honey. Let sit in a ziplock bag for one hour (or overnight for more flavor, if preparing in advance) before grilling. A foreman grill works excellently for this. If you don't want a fluid marinade make your own chicken rub (Never use the salt-laden store junk). A simple italian seasoning rub might be to mix in a small bowl:
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Dash Pepper or two twists on the pepper medley grinder
Dash add'l basil

Take the mixed seasonings and pinch over the chicken and gently rub it in both sides. It doesn't take much, a medium breast can be done in 1-2 pinches per side. Store the reast for later.

PM if you have any questions or would like more suggestions.

Exercise will allow you to have a greater variety of things to eat. The more you burn the more you can consume without gaining. That's my problem, I'm much less active then I was when working for Uncle.

thanks for the tips to you all, the recipe is a good suggestion, but i think combining the smaller portions with exercise is the way to go. exercise! when you get to sixty it get to be a toughie. but with exercise i might be able to eat better. :D

Walking is great exercise. Tell your wife you want to start walking before you have your dinner, you'll be surprised ast how much weight you can keep off. Good luck with your efforts.

Yep, I'm on the Stogieman diet. I wanted to adopt the diet for life (well, its lose or die), not just until I'm down to where I need to be. I'm 6'0 and started at 295. I'm down to 280 in just under 2 weeks. I also went sugarless.

I take fresh garlic, chop it, and slowly cook it in virgin olive oil along with a little onion powder, Lawerys seasoning salt and parsley flakes. Then I take half of it and marinade chicken breasts in it for 3 days or so. Drain it, then I use the remaining to fry the chicken in, it makes a mean garlic chicken that has practically no calories since very little olive oil ever stays in the chicken and chicken breasts are some of the leanest white meat. Hillbilly has some great recipes for pork rub too which are practically calorie free just spices and pork is also very lean, like pork roast or pork chops. You can also go with something like a good old beef roast, throw it in a slow cooker with beef broth, cook it for about 4-5 hours and it just falls apart, throw some carrots in there if you want too. Then you can just use its juices if it’s a little too dry for you. Salad is always the most popular choice to loose weight but you can eat plenty of meats while still being plenty healthy and get very lean from it with out cracking one day and saying this can all go to hell. While walking is great for someone starting out be sure to switch it up after awhile, so many people do it for a few months and start to realize its not working anymore and get discouraged. You body will always adjust so switch it up to bike riding or something for a while then go back to walking. Just a few tips.

P.S btw sugar free is great but you have to remember you still need some sugars in your system or over time you have other issues, be sure to get some fruit in be it just a glass of juice a day.

Geez..we could be twins..cept for the whole age thing!

Seasoning, smaller portions, eating breakfast in the morning, and walking for a min of 30 min 4-5 times a week, seems to be working so far for me.. good luck!

I have a proper diet 6 days out of the weeks.
And have one day on the weekend, where I can treat myself, that way you have something to look forward to.
Also, I highly recommend Suger-free popicles, taste great and supress the cravings, especially at night.
