I apologize for all those that arent men reading this.
As the Patriots go into their 3rd SuperBowl in 4 years the argument has arisen: is Brady better/as good as Montana? Here is a brief breakdown of stats as well as my thoughts.
Round 1 Success
Joe Montana - 4 SuperBowls - 4 Championships
8 time pro-bowler
16-7 in playoffs
Tom Brady - 2 SuperBowls - 2 Championships
1 time pro-bowler
8-0 in playoffs
Round 2 Meaningful Numbers
Career Completion %
Montana 63.2
Brady 61.6
Career TD
Montana 273
Brady 97
Career INT
Montana 139
Brady 52
TD/INT Ratio
Montana 1.96
Brady 1.87
Round 3 Intagibles
Montana
Negatives: Played in a capless era. Threw to the greatest wide receiver (PLAYER???) ever and had an incredible running game and defense to boot. Had arguably best coach ever.
Positives: Always won. Is one part of the most infamous pass in football (to Dwight Clark). Drove to win a SuperBowl at the end of the 4th quarter. Team relied on the offense. Even Hanes is his way.
Brady
Negatives: Plays in a capped era, no team can amass what the 70's Steelers or 90's Cowboys had. Defense wins championships, the Pats aren't known for their unrelenting offense. First championship was a blown call (in the snow against the Raiders?, the new 'tuck' rule) away from never happening.
Positives: Never loses. Seriously, NEVER, no really, NEVER. Won with average receivers and an average running game. LIVES at the Playboy Mansion.
Me personally, I rarely catch a Pats game, but when I do I rarely see Brady have an amazing game, a truly monumental 'THATS how you play football' game. I've never seen him take control of a game and win it. It's a lot like Rothlisomething, until he had to actually make a throw he was great, and when he had to win it... SOOOOOOOO as far as I see it Montana is on top, ESPN is making a story out of nothing. But what do you think?
