I was out looking for a new humidor or even a cooler yesterday with a friend of mine. We were at target looking at coolers (no success) when we decided to hit up the local B&M. I told him I'd probably end up buying another box of cigars instead of the humidor I needed. Long story short, I ended up with a box of butera and he ended up with a LFD Chisel. I told him it was the strongest cigar I was aware of, but he wanted to give it a go anyway. We got back to my place and got in the hot tub. As soon as he lit it up you could tell it was not your typical cigar. The smoke was thick and easily overpowered the smoke from my butera. He said he tasted horseradish. When he gave me a couple puffs, I tasted the horseradish, but I wouldn't label the flavor that specifically. I finished my butera, and then finished my rum. About 30 minutes later he finished the chisel. I expected him to be woozy, but if he was, he didn't let it show. Should I be impressed with my friend's tolerance, or did I buy into too much hype about the LFD Chisel?

I really have come to like the LFD line up. Their double ligero line has more of a kick than the ligero. I believe the chisel is part of the ligero line. I find them to be balanced and not to overpowering imho. However, last week I had the LFD Mysterio Oscuro Cigar 7x54. That thing kinda put me on my ass. I read an article in C Aff. talking about white ash being prefered over a gray ash. I had never paid attention to this till that night. The ash From the Mysterio was whiter than a foam cup. Good smoke. Best price I have found is:

I too have very much come to enjoy everything I have tasted from LFD. I actually had my first Double Ligero Chisel last week and thought it was a fantastic smoke. It was interesting to hear the flavor labeled as horseradish. Not exactly how I would have described it, but I can actually understand why one would say that. To be honest I don't know exactly how I would label the flavor..... it was unique for certain. Based on my experiences with the Chisel and the Fact. Press II, I certainly look forward to further experimentation with LFD.

As stated, LFD cigars I've found so far, do have an unusually light ash as compared with other brands. It would be interesting to know what influences the color of the ash. I've read that a lighter ash can be acheived by adding high levels of the mineral magnesium to the tobacco plant's soil.

Hey, I wonder if that indescribable flavor is magnesium horseradish! :sign:

Smoking and drinking in a hot tub is a good way to get sick. :)

I need to get my hands on some more LFD. The last one I had seemed pretty good but I put it out prematurely.

I smoked a LFD Double Ligero Chisel yesterday and it definitely gave me one of the biggest buzzes I've had from a cigar but it wasn't so bad I couldn't walk or anything like that. I will definitely be getting more for that time when I really need a good strong cigar.

Yeah, it is pretty relaxing. Especially when it's below freezing out and the tub is nice and hot. Your beer or wine stays nice and cold while you're warm in the tub! :)

I haven't had an LFD DL Chiseltip in quite a while, but I've got one here that I brought with me. Got a couple Opus #5, too. Can't decide if I want to smoke 'em or spring them on an unsuspecting newb... :D :D

box of butera

Ok, maybe I'm a newb but, what is a Butera? I've never had those cigars.

Also, LFD Chisels are strong, strong cigars, IMHO. Every time I've given one to an inexperienced cigar smoker, they never finish them (and that's anything from LFD, not just Chisels.)

So wait, wait, wait... Lemme get this straight.

You got in the hot tub with your buddy, had "some drinks," you "smoked" his "cigar," and then you "tasted the horseradish????"

Wow, sounds like you had an exciting evening!!! :sign: :sign: :sign:

Just kidding, just kidding, but in all seriousness, I'd never heard of the LFD Chisel, interesting smoke...

Actually it was the afternoon, so an afternoon delight joke would have been more appropriate. He said he'd probably have another, and he recommended it.

LOL! So what size of humi are you in searches for?

Good question. At first I thought a coolidor would be best. Then I realized I don't really have room for it in any room that stays around 68 degrees. Then I thought a large desktop would be best, but I haven't found one I like. Now I'm leaning towards the coolidor again. Currently, I have a couple boxes in a gigantic ziploc bag. Fortunately, the humidity is staying constant, but its certainly not a long-term solution.

Jack Schwartz is prolly the best place to buy LFDs from, evidently they are tight w/ Lito, and usually have most all of the line in stock. Plus, they are great folks to deal with, not that many of our other vendors that frequent this place aren't...

The LFD chisel is a pretty good smoke, in either wrapper, but I like the oscuro a little better.
I haven't gotten woozy off of any I've smoked...yet.
I have also heard folks say the Myterio did them in.
I have about five that I'm trying to get about a years age on them before I smoke another one.
I also have some Coronado Dbl Coronas with a year on them. Smoked one last week.
I like it better fresh, but it was still a very nice smoke, with more pepper in it's charachter.

Freezer bags have served my smokes very well over the years. :whistling: I hate to say it but they work. They just look like police evidence sitting around the office. LOL

I think I had the DL 600, I have yet to remember sizes. It did make me woozy, but was also about the 4th cigar I smoked, and I had alrady been awake around 20 hours with 4 hours sleep between days. So, I'm not sure which did me in the most.
