As I get sucked deeper and deeper into my new obsession I find myself contemplating becoming a member of Cigar Bid. Has anyone ever had any issues with them? Any potential problems (besided blowing all my dough)? Thanks

I have won a couple of bids that I have been pleased with. The first were for some Indian Tabac Maduros. They were cheap and I have a had a few with draw problems. The other bid was for some Gurkha 8 year Legend Torpedos, which I have been very pleased with. As a matter of fact, I just won 2 bids this week and they are in transit right now.

So far, everything has been on the up and up.

Big thing with CBid is that the prices more often than not go crazy. Do your homework, and know what stuff can be purchased for elsewhere. I try to never bid more than 3/4 the going rate for things. That way, when you win, it's a decent deal.

They sent me the wrong fiver once, but made it right pronto with no hassle. Nothing to squawk about, to be sure.

Regards - B.B.S.

STAY AWAY FROM C-BID! Once you start bidding you will be sucked into a world of bidding that escalates to infinity. You have been warned. :whistling:

Use the search facilty, this has been discussed often.

The general consensus is that these people sell way above MSRP
and quote incorrect MSRP prices and should not be supported.

The "devil", as fetterjohn so eloquently states

Know what the cigars you are bidding on are actually worth. Figure out what you would be comfortable paying for them, for some its 3/4 MSRP, for others they will pay up to MSRP. But be forewarned, some bidding gets out of hand. I've always gotten my winning bids in a fast manner with no screw ups so far(knock on wood). I think its a good site, and certainly economical if you play your cards right. Oh..., I did forget to mention a few things. You will probably get addicted, run out of room in your humidor and the two coolidors, which you don't even have yet, and that economical thing I just said, it will be countered by vast quantities of cigars being bid and won on. All this sums up to you getting a lot of cigars at a decent cost and spending whatever money you still have on therapy or your wife.

C-bid is an excellent place to find bargains.
Many people get addicted to bidding, and overbid
or just win too many cigars.

As a noob, myself, I started bidding there on Memorial
Day and now have a nearly full 150 ct humi, and I
never paid more than $4/smoke. And I have some good
ones. Most were in the $3/stick neighborhood.

But not all auctions are bargains. Do your homework
before you bid. Check out Top25cigar.com and
http://www.cigarcyclopedia.com/comparisonshopper/

to find out what is good, and how much a reasonable bid
is.

My rule of thumb to begin bidding is to take 25% of the
MSRP. You can always bid more, if you really want to
try something, or have a budget/limit. But don't
bid $20 for a single that you can get at your B&M or
another online vendor for $12. That's just plain dumb.

AFA c-bid customer service, it is top notch. I live
one day's shipping away from c-bid and I often get my
order the same day I get the email saying they shipped
it. If you don't live in a State nearby to PA, then
you'll have more shipping concerns. If your cigars
are shipped on Friday they might sit in a hot truck,
or a dry warehouse over the weekend. That's not good
for your 'gars.

Also, there seem to be more bargains near holidays.
Most people are busy with family, etc. and some gems
go unnoticed and cheaply.

I never had a problem with overbidding, since I have
been an eBayer for many years. But I can understand
how some people view the c-bid 'devil' as a candy store.
(I'm like that in hardware stores)

Good luck.

From what I've seen it's similar to ebay that is there are deals to be found if you look hard but most of the time the bidding gets outrageous. People get very caught up in bidding wars and don't realize they're paying more than they would elsewhere.

Myself I've never used it since I'm not 21 yet...

Make sure you actually read the description and do not go by the title or pic. There have been instances where people have bid box price for singles when the auction title and ic were not clear.

Intentional on c-bid's part? I can't say one way or the other, but it's unseemly in my book.

Also, select the option to combine your lots in shipping. Otherwise they ship you each lot seperately and you get hosed by shipping charges.

Also, as has been said, know the true MSRP and going rate for smokes. Most of their "Compare to" prices are well above what most sticks can be found for elsewhere.

I very seldom look anymore. With auction frenzy, there are very few bargains.CBID routinely misrepresents its product. There are more predictable, regular bargains to be had elsewhere. CBID will bend you over if you can't stay in control.

I've never had a problem with c-bid either. Some of the harder to get singles get out of line with pricing, but I think that's because the bidders can't get them locally. Great deals are to be had; if the pricing is high, thats the bidder's fault.

I find myself contemplating becoming a member of Cigar Bid.

I think they do have a forum there, otherwise there's nothing really to become a member of. Cigars International is the parent company, so it's easy to check there to see what the cigars you're bidding on actually sell for. It won't be the msrp listed on the auction.

Like Infinity said, use the search function here and you'll find a ton of advice and examples of stuff getting out of hand over there.

i had issues with whom they use to deliver the product. they resloved my issue in a timely manner. the bidding can go way over retail though, so be aware of what the auction is actually worth before you bid. and cigars international is the parent of them, do some comparison shopping first, and don't get sucked into the excitement of an auction.

Never had a problem. Even when a couple items were missing from my shipment they qucikly and without questions replaced the missing items.

Like the others have said...

Do your homework. ;)

Set your shipping to weekly.

Set your max bid and stop there. If you lose the auction, another one will be along shortly.

I didn't see anyone else mention this but be sure of the AMOUNT in the lot. Do not be decieved by the pictures that may NOT coincide with the lot sold.

i.e. A picture of a box and the lot is only a five-pack.

i.e. A picture of the Torpedo but the lot is a corona.

You'd be surprised how often people bid $50 for a five-pack they thought was a box! No kidding! :D
