Me and a buddy of mine were thinking of going to the Big Smoke in NYC, I was wondering if anyone has ever been and what goes doesn and if its worth the money. Also if anyone else if gonna be there?
I agree with the previous post. I've been to the NYC one as well as the Vegas Big Smoke Weekend. The NYC was fun but I would agree that you get a lot of lower end cigars. I think anyone who has been a member of CP for any significant amount of time would be better off doing some newbie trades or box splits and spend the rest of the money herfing with some local members. I don't regret going at all but I have a hard time justifying going again (now that I have gone) considering that you could take the money and just buy yourself a nice box of smokes.
The Vegas Big Smoke weekend is the same level of smoke (same vendors) but some of the seminars you are attend are pretty interesting and you get a chance to be shoulder to shoulder with guys like Pete Johnson, the Fuentes and others. So that's pretty cool but again I cant see myself being one of those guys that goes year after year.
My buddy is just geting really into cigars and he works in the city, and we both live about 25 minutes outside the city. We might just go and check it out since we have never been. As far as the cigars, Ill probably let him have all the hand outs unless they suprise us with something. I will probably bring a couple Padron 45ths for the occasion, maybe even a black or two..
I say if you have never been it is definitely worth going at least once. The freebies are just that freebies...usually nothing great. You won't get your money's worth in food and booze in NY since the event isn't very long, but it is a great opportunity to meet people in the area that share your interests. Though it is definitely crowded. Vegas is definitely one that I plan on attending soon. It's just tough with a wife and kids.
