I'm sure this has been discussed at some point in the past, however I'd like to ask again. Is it/would it be possible to give one or two of the highly respected members him the ability to act as moderators in the absence of Ron?

I know we like to say that we are a self-moderated community and we look out for ourselves, however what happened today, and is happening right now with this asshat McCleese is just too much. This joker starts a thread with a link to gay male porno, and even though everyone to respond thereafter has warned folks not to click on the link, it has been too late for some. Rob can't be online all the time, and he shouldn't have to be or feel as though he should be. It would be great if there were a couple highly respected members who could fill in just for extreme cases such as this. I know it's a tough call, but I'd like to know what others think about this.

Again, this would be limited to very extreme cases.

Thanks!

Nope, at this point we will remain a mod-free community. When the post was reported, the thread was removed within just over an hour.

Also, name is Rod, not Ron or Rob...

I'll take the Saloon. People posting beer threads in the wrong spot is really upsetting. :p

Sorry Rod, I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to take part in that long running joke. :D

NO "MODS"

Rod (or is it Todd, I fergit  ) handles things here just fine.

Besides, moderators don't have the power to ban anyone. That can only be done by an Administrator.

There's another cigar site that used to have "moderators" :whistling: but they were driven away

Personally, i like this site the way it is being MOD free...occasionally we get some Yahoo that likes to start trouble, but Rod usually checks em pretty quickly. Mods tend to really stink up a board sometimes as their opinions are usually what goes...not the opinions of the people. Alot of them seem to get the hall monitor mentality. There are a couple people on this board that should be moderated, but for the most part, were a pretty tight nit group that knows when enough is enough.

I for one say, KEEP THE BOARD MOD FREE!! :whistling:

I think McClit is a good example of why we don't need mods rather than why we do. Putting the group's responsibility into one person doesn't interest me at all. Besides it would take away the fun of abusing abusers from the rest of us. :) And tip of the hat to Rod. Another job well done.

As an aside-part of the genious of this site is the guideline to refrain from overt religious and political discussions. That really works for me. Of course on the down side you all don't get to be enlightened by my opinions in these areas but life is full of compromise. Besides you can always PM me if you need someone else to think for you.

My $00.02 - I'm a SuperMod at a computer based forum, and over there, there are clearly cases where we really need to step in. But - these pages don't have nearly the issues that the other forums do. More of a limited audience, with more in common is my guess. CP members disagree from time to time, but the really "nasty" stuff is generally few and far between. The concept of "self policing" by the long term members seems to work very, very well and Rod does a great job of pouring water on the rare fires that pop up. Also, being a mod, I know very well how hard it is to keep your opinions out of your posts and modding tasks.

Bottom line - IMHO - these forums aren't broken, and don't need fixing.

Regards - B.B.S.

Give me mod priviledges for about ten minutes and all you'll have left are me and Ron.

I'd get rid of everyone including you, but you're the cutest and I need someone to talk to while I jingle my bells.......
