Cigar Hangover

I am pleased to report that after 1.5 weeks, I am now back to my regularly scheduled program. :)

Since it was a bit of a one-off evening weather-wise, the patio was calling my name. Mrs. Morcerf claimed she knew what was coming because I "had that look in my eye." So I went downstairs to the cooler & settled on my cigar - a peaceful smoke for a peaceful evening. I then picked up my cutter & 2 lighters from the knickknack cabinet in the kitchen & put them in my pocket. Next I filled my water & took it out on the patio, then came back in & poured a glass of cold chocolate milk. After I picked up some jelly beans (not taking any chances from now on), I was ready to begin. This hobby is becoming more & more of a ritual. :D

It ended up a little cooler than I would have liked but it was so still & peaceful compared to the gales we have had as of late. Since there was no wind, it was hypnotizing to watch the undulating smoke gently curl & wave to me as it was leaving the cigar, as if to say, "Thank you kind sir, for setting me free. In return for your good deed, I shall grant you a pleasant & relaxing evening."

Best thing to do is just curl up in a little ball (fetal position) and pray for it to end.

On a more serious note, I would definitely suggest what Rod and others have stated and that is, make sure you have something of substance in your stomach before embarking on a robust cigar. Also, it will get better the more you smoke. I remember about 3 years ago (was is that long ago??) when I was in KC for an Outlaw Padron event and after a heavy night of drinking, I decided (around noon) to smoke a PAM followed up by a Padron 1926, due to the advice of Brad (Mr. Balls)... oh yeah, I was also consuming some tasty micro brews on tap at the time on an empty stomach. Needless to say, about two hours later into my thoughtless affair, I had to run to my car and just sit in my seat for about 20-30 minutes until I was able to resume some sort of sanity. My head was turning my stomach felt like hell and I thought I was going to pass out. However, when I returned, I quickly ate some of the BBQ that was available and all was well. I'm happy to say that when I came back I was able to continue smoking, drinking, and most of all, have a good time... that is, until later that night when I made another intelligent decision to visit one of the casinos where I lost the rest of my spending money.

I'm sure that probably doesn't help too much but it just brought back some memories. Thanks, Brad! :D

Orangeman, I remember meeting you at that event...it was the very first time Outlaw hosted Padron, May of '06. I had recently participated in the 5 Card Draw Pass you hosted that spring. I just got back on the forums for the first time probably since then! Good to see ya man!

The only time I've ever vomited from a cigar was in the Outlaw parking lot. Wasn't fun. I always drink Coke or some kind of soft drink with a cigar. I usually make it a point to eat as well, and concentrate that effort if I know I'm going to be smoking a full-bodied cigar.

This hit me today, right as i finished a little Illusion -MK-. I have a one to two stick a day habit going here, so I was a little surprised when that small little Illusion brought on some feelings of nausea. :(

Haha... we all have our stories from when we were fresh and healthy and the effect of a strong cigar messed with our newb heads.

For me, it was about 6 months in to smoking cigars habitually when I had an Opus X #5. I had tried it before, but this time I had a rather empty stomach. Just some liquids I think. I was parked in the car a short drive from home, watching the sunset from atop a hill. Halfway home, it hit me. I got very dizzy and had to take it real easy getting back home safely.

I promptly threw up as soon as I was through the bathroom door, and lay down on the couch for half an hour in a cold sweat (as I did not know about the sugar remedy back then). Funny thing is, now I could do the same be just fine these days. Could do some stunt driving home if the need arose :D.

Everyone has different nicotine tolerance however. If you find that you keep getting snagged on strong cigars and strong coffee, erm... avoid the combo. Probably just need to toughen up though ;)

It took my wife about three years to be able to tolerate the smell of a cigar again, and she has no desire to ever smoke another. :(
