Cigar Store Humidor

Well, I have had this new job for a couple of months now and am exploring the cigar stores close to the office. I live in St. Louis and now work across the river in Illionois, but only about 5 miles from the river. So today I went to Maryville IL and browsed the humidor at Whitney's. Upon entering the smell was rather overpowering and I thought it was the Acids that were immediately inside the door to the left. This is a no-no in my book anyway. But while browsing a box of Padilla's I looked just beyond the box and noticed that the walls were covered with that cheap pressed red cedar board. Smelled like a horse barn in there and I can only assume some of that had to make it's way into the cigars. Too bad, it is a nice shop and there were a couple of guys sitting, smoking and talking. First time I've actually seen red cedar in a walk-in at any retail establsishment.

I have a feeling that the owner might not know that much about cigars or keeping them properly. I know it's difficult to keep a good, constant humidity in a large store humidor with people walking in and out and what not , so, I'll accept getting the occasional burn issue off a cigar fresh from the store, but red cedar is an egregious error.
 
Ouch!!! Did you check out the Padilla's??? Where they Miamis?? I was wondering how much a box of Miamis were going for by you.

The Miami's were about $10. I suppose there might be a box price break, but I did not ask. The Padilla Habanos were $7.00 for the belicoso.
 
Yuk! Pressboard of any kind would turn me off. Using aromatic cedar is just plain ignorant. If it were me, that'd be my last visit.
 
I ventured into that place right after it opened (its only 3min from my house in Edwardsville). I noticed the red cedar immediately and haven't purchased anything from there. However, it is a good place to relax and have a cigar when the weather is bad. They aren't big sticklers about you purchasing a cigar from them and smoking it there or only allowing people who are in their "members club" or something to smoke there.

Golfgar, you might want to check out Milo's in Edwardsville. It's right on Main Street. Pretty good selection, but he is an ass about people smoking in his place if you arent a member.
 
If you were going to invest the money to start a store, how would you overlook proper storage and make such a mistake? I am sure someone has brought it to their attention. I wonder what his take on it is.
 
Yeah you'll get that it seems a B&M near me has a really nice walkin too bad they used aromatic cedar for the walls in the thing. You would think they would know but you'd be amazed by how many people get involved in businesses they know absolutely nothing about.
