Economic Times are tough…Stocks markets are sinking… Major industries are failing and we are all feeling a
financial pinch. We have a new president-elect who is expected to bring new energy and life to our sluggish economy. No easy job…

We are all feeling the pressure… concerned about our jobs, savings, homes and plans for retirement. There is a lot of anxiety out there and we are all waiting for the next shoe to drop. We are all waiting for a turnaround but starting to brace for the worse.

When times like this come along, we all cut back on luxury things…we eat out less, travel less and as cigar or pipe smokers, we cut back on our buying habits. Instead of buying a Padron Anniversary 1926, we may buy several of the 3000’s. We are now looking for more value for our dollar then buyingwhat we really want.

Fortunately there is a silver lining in all of this for us all. Spending less for a cigar does not mean that we have to lose out on quality, construction and flavor. There are now so many cigar manufacturers that are focused on creating awesome smokes at affordable prices.

Perhaps the best medicine for tough times like the ones we face today is a little extra time at the cigar store with friends. We try to gain some perspective on the current economic times. We try to reassure ourselves and we are also supporting our local cigar shop and the cigar industry. They both really need our help.

There are most better times ahead. Until then, the cigar fan in all of us knows exactly how to create better times right now.

Light up enjoy…

So if you are at the level of 3000s and not 1926...does that mean we have to start smoking white owls? :(

My local shop carries the EO Brand No. 21 Bundles I'm really digging those. Not bad for the price. Thankfully I'm close to Kentucky which has a much lower Cigar Tax than most places.

Very nice thoughts on the subject. I know I've dodged a few bullets at the work place lately but it seems like when I dodge one bullet, another one is right behind it. It creates knots in my stomach... not knowing what is to come and, at least for the time being, not really having much control over the decisions that will be made that will affect my job security.

So for now I like to do what you said... light up and enjoy. Some of my most profound realizations come from the times when I'm sitting back in silence, puffing on a cigar, and letting my mind wander. What's great is that unlike my pot head college days, I can actually remember the great ideas the next day  :whistling:

Maybe it'll be tonight, slowly drawing on a selected selection, when I see the light and realize exactly what I need to do for myself and my future.

Hey, at least if you start buying short filler cigars you know that you aren't going to get a plugged cigar rolled by a lazy torcedor.

:D

This is very true. I find that the time I spend with fellow CPers enjoying a good smoke is the best medicine for dealing with tumultuous times. That's why it's amazing to have the network of great people we have here, and to have the opportunity to herf with the greatest botls around the world

I am thankful that I have been a bundle cigar kinda guy all along. There are some nice sticks out there in the 2-4 dollar range, just need to wade through the piles of dog turds to find them.

Sancho Panza, Rosa Cuba, and Tampa Sweetheart are all cheap and enjoyable (to me at least).

Also thankful that the recession has not hit Alaska very hard. Not many of the major companies announcing layoffs operate up here. DHL is the one that will effect the most people up here and that is less than 60 employees. All my lower 48 friends think I am nuts for leaving my job and my Alaska friends think it is a good move.

You know I have been real down lately for a lot of these reasons.

Just like a lot of us.

Plus seeing more then one online friend pass in the past few weeks is tough.

You hit the nail on the head.

Good thread.

Rant-on.

In the bigger picture, one of the best things we can all do is return to buying American. Do your research before you make your purchases; find and support products made in the USA. You WILL pay more for these products, but they WILL last.

Stop feeding the Chinese landfills. Stop sending your money overseas, and stop supporting companies that have gone abroad to add more lining to executive pockets.

Rant-off.

You can smoke the Muniemakers, I'll stick with the Central American stuff. :p

;) Just jerkin' your chain a little, Mick.

Marines are hiring. 3 square meals, roof over your head, (most of the time), heath care, and no layoffs.

Doc.
