The Canadian dollar just hit par with the US dollar, for the first time in 31 years.

For those of us NOTB who shop in the US, that's HUGE!!

No offense to you. But that sucks! It's all Bernanke's fault! Lowering the prime to save big investors who made bad bets. I wish I was living huge in a house that I shouldn't be able to affrd and let the gov't save me from my mistakes. I see the dollar going lower before going higher. I knew I should have ordered those BBF's from Hong Kong before this happened.

I'm with you. My wife and I wanted to squeeze a trip over to the UK next spring break. But, if the currency/exchange rate continues, all bets are off.

I kind of have mixed feelings about it.

My parents are buying a new vehicle from the US next week. All said and done it will cost them 25000 CAD after paying 17.1% tax at the border. The best the stealership could do up here was 34500CAD. The dealer in MT is even meeting them near the border.

I am going to enjoy it when I do some US travelling next summer, but for my industry it is not great.

Oil@80USD/bbl=80.10CAD/bbl today
Back when oil was ~60USD/bbl=78.80CAD/bbl

I remember as kid in Buffalo when Canadian dollars were worth more, about $1.05 USD. Late 50's/early 60's time frame.
