So, as far as I can tell, unless you ahve the super-case for zippos, lighters are forbidden in carry on OR checked baggage. One can risk putting a lighter in checked, but you risk having them rifle through and take your lighter. RIght?

What about matches? Carry on? Checked luggage?
I am going to put an older cutter in my checked bags, we'll see how that goes.

EDIT: Found a link...nevermind....

I am a habitual match stealer on my business trips. I think it's a limit of two packs in your checked luggage??? However, I usually have quite a few in my carry-on and have never had any taken away.

i would buy a cheepo lighter at your destination and trash it when you leave, no risk of TSA taking or holding you up that way.

Thought about this, but we are going to land in a foreign airport, and then get whisked away to another small plane. I will probably not feel like dealing (or rememebring) to go find a lighter at that time.
If I can carry matches on, I think I will put a few boxes of davidoff matches in my carry on. Then, if I can manage to find a cheapo torch down there, great. I will probably rish putting on in the outside pocket of my checked baggage, too...who knows what I'll try.

Can you ship a lighter to the hotel you're staying?

That would have been a good idea had ai thought about it before now. We are staying on a small island resort off the coast of a caye off the coast of Belize. I can only imagine that trying to mail things there is an iffy proposition. I also imagine that if I ask them to get me a lighter, one will appear rather quickly.

I've had Bic lighters slip through security in checked baggage...

I've carried my cutter with my carry-on with no problems.

You should keister any 'contraband' you bring though! I wouldn't bring too many Gran Coronas...

did the same on my honeymoon, at the resort we stayed in, there were matches avail with every cigar purchase and my suite had ashtray and matches on the balcony, so all was cool.
edit for answer in previous thread.

I'm headed to Belize. It's not so much a resort as a small island with a 2-1 staff-guest ratio, just four (maybe 5) little cottages on the water, no store, no nothing, but it does have a fully stocked humi and bar.

Rob, thanks for the "friendly" advice. I'll leave the Gran Coronas at home! I'm just going to bring 1 or 3 of my favorties, the rest will be puchased there.

Whats the name of this place? Is it public? You've got me thinking...

I was 16 when I went to my first High School athletic banquet. I was told they were serving steak, so I brought a bottle of A1, not knowing whether they would have it. Its was a terribly silly thing to do, but I couln't possibly have eaten a steak without it - it wasn't worth the risk.

So long as I have my cigar, I can bit the tip off, then rub sticks to get fire. No cigar is no cigar. Bring enough to get you by.

Again, congratulations, Josh!

The place is called Cayo Espanto. I have already spoken tothe manager to make SURE that their humi is well stocked. I am bringing my super-special celebration cigar (if I don't smoke it on the back porch the day after the wedding), a WOAM, and a Esplendido.
The rest, I will probably buy there. Apparently there is a box of aged Lusitanias in the humi...I have a feeling that is going to be my #1 smoke for the 10 days.

Damn that looks nice! But at $1000 to $2000 per day (5 day minimum) with a 25% Government tax to boot you had better be making the BLING! :0

I heard you can carry more than two packs of matches with shoes OFF!

Sweet! It was featured on a travel show we just watched on the dish, and is ranked in the top 10 of the Carribean places to visit. Enjoy! :)

I must have just squeaked by on my trips to Chicago and Florida. Both times, I put my torch and cutter in the check in. Both times, I had the shiny, pretty decal that TSA puts on to let you know they rifled through your stuff. I got away with a torch lighter.

With my honeymoon also coming up to Aruba, I am not sure I want to tempt fate and bring my new cutter and torch (early wedding presents  ) Knowing my luck, the TSA officer who rifled through my stuff would be having a bad day...

I am going to take one of my cheapy cutters and get torch/matches down there. And dang, wouldn't you know, a couple bands fell off my cigrs and I can't get them back on :whistling:

Cool! Cayo was on TV? I would have liked to have seen it. We are getting really excited.

Good thinking. In aruba, it is really easy to pick up a cheap torch down there. If you go to LCDH or any reputable shop, they might even throw in the torch with a nice purchase, the nice lady at LCDH did for me.

Yep. Look forward to seeing what I can find at the LCDH. I told the future Mrs. that I would give her some money for some shopping in the area of LCDH, just leave me be for about an hour :p
