Diamond Pet Food Users

Large/giant breed dogs need a lower protein food even as a puppy, or they grow too fast which will lead to growth problems. (Diamond even sells a Large Breed puppy food, whch is only 27% for puppies, and their large breed adult is just 23%).

I started my Dane out on the Lamb and Rice, which is 23% for that exact reason.

yup... my guys have been getting EaglePack Holistic pretty much from the get-go -lower portein and good fat content. The breeder I got my girl from spent HOURS on the phone with each food company talking to their nutrionalist, asking questions, getting info and so on. HOURS! (I saw the phone records... $$$$) Just to pick what she thought was the best food for her dogs. And to this day they have great, shiny coats, are healthy and very happy. 'Course this has nothing to do with their life in our house... :whistling:

we even ran into an AKC judge on vacation up here, and he was really impressed with our boy- was pretty funny actually. We were walking in the open air market, and he saw us and came over to talk to us. He was really impressed with Porter... until Porter turned to greet him and this guy saw his face! The white covering his eye is a 'non-standard' breed marking which keeps him from breeding or showing. His only comment was 'Geez that's too bad'. Otherwise he judged them like he would in a show and thought Porter would have cleaned up, except for his face. He was very impressed with their coats, and the overall look of them. he asked what we fed them, and what else we gave them - he was amazed that I kept all my salmon skins after smoking the fish and used them as treats.

But food does have a big impact on them...

I used to feed our lab Innova with great results but due to supply problems up here in Alaska, we've recently switched over to Solid Gold and he seems to do even better on it.

I guess "best on the market" really depends upon which market you find yourself in. Our dog doesn't tolerate corn well, so it doesn't go into his bowl. That rules out all but Diamon's large breed kibble, I think. Since our lab qualifies as such, I'd probably give Diamond a try if it were available here.

Being corn-, wheat-, and soy-free...and available...Solid Gold satisfies our needs on that count, and then some. I therefore pronounce Solid Gold the best on the market. Okay...the best in our market...for our dog...of all the foods we've tried to date.

I don't know what's the best pet food, but my vet suggested Iam's for my dogs. I used to just grab Purina Dog Chow, or whatever was on sale. Not no more...

One thing they told me would happen if I switched to Iam's - the dogs would crap less. Boy - I couldn't believe it, but it was absolutely true.

My two dogs are healthy, happy, and have a great shiny coat. My last dog (a German Shepherd) lived to the ripe old age of 17 - with hip displacia and arthritis you'd never know she had she was so healthy (the vet told me she was in such good shape, her muscles kept everything locked well into place). So I guess we're feeding them pretty good!!!

If you were to ask me - I'd say Iam's was the best. And I'm sure I'll get booed and heckled for that opinion. But in my opinion, I'd never switch. (I just started my ferret's on Iam's kitten too, and they've been doing great...)

I've heard good things about Eagle pack but the price is too rich for my blood. I have noticed that a lot of people think more protein means a better food but it just isn't so. I am more interested in the fat, calcium, phosphorus, and omega vitamins. I'm not trying to turn everyone into Diamond users (especially not while the bad batch is out) I'm just stating it's a great food and I'll keep using it.

I'll say it's pricey- try up here on top of that! But, after what I paid for my pups, and everything else, well, they're worth it. The dogs literally ARE and WILL be our kids (substitutes) so what the hey- might as well give them the best we can. Most people do that for their kids... ;) why should't we. that's why I have 4 extra large dog pads in the house, I sold my pickup camper and got a basic shell for them to ride in, and we go for hikes/walks daily...

nawww... we don't spoil them!
