Bought some LE Montecristo Sublimes 2008. These are supposed to be great cigars. Box, bands, everything looks totally genuine, but they taste like nothing, completely flat.

Anyone else run into these? Would appreciate a PM from somebody who can give me a clue.

I could post some photos if that isn't against policy.

While it is very possible they are fake, just because they suck doesn't mean they aren't Cuban. You should PM someone who is interested the source of said cigars.

OK, hold on a second... I was so disappointed that I had to go for a real cigar, lit up a 1964 Padron Exclusivo. I've smoked many of these before (this was the last in its box), and always found it to be an absolutely fantastic cigar.

It tasted just like the Montecristo... like crud.

What the hell is going on?? Did I just lose my ability to enjoy cigars or something? Nothing wrong with my humidor, it was at 70 degrees, 67 RH, and has been for a long time.

Why do my cigars taste like crap all of a sudden? Has anybody else ever experienced this??

GAH...

Who might that be?

Yeah, that has happened to me before - once. I did the exact same thing as you, except I went to a different benchmark cigar :D.

Not 100% sure why it happens, but just take a break from cigars, and the taste will come back in a week or so. Otherwise, see your dentist or doctor.

Give your tastebuds a rest for a week without smoking and to get over your cold and I am sure you will find the Monte's to be a superb smoke. The photos look good to me and just like the box I have.

This happens to me every once in a while as well. First time it happened I was smoking a Tat Black. Second time was an Oliva V Maduro. Both pretty rare cigars so I was not happy.

Not sure if it's the environment where I was smoking or maybe I was starting to get sick. Both times for me I have been in a cigar shop with a lot of smoke around.

Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I remember eating lunch, and thinking "Wow, that didn't really taste like anything. Just food." That night I smoked a cigar, and it was really flat. I tried another, same thing. I couldn't taste a dang thing. I was just coming off of being really stuffed up for a while. The next day I could taste again. So it's probably not your Subs.

Here are some hi-res photos, hope somebody can confirm that these are real:

I have found that if I am starting to get sick all cigars I smoke taste like crap.

OK, this makes sense now. I am just coming off a very bad cough and cold. I really hope this is the case.

Anybody else ever have this problem?

They look the real deal.
What was in the box (I mean the little papers) and very important do you have a picture of the bottom of the box to let us see the box code?
I have a box in the coolerdore that I know is real because it was bought at my B&M.

More than likely its nothing to worry about. Since a cold will affect your sense of smell and taste. And these 2 senses go hand in hand.

Sometimes medications will do that. If you are taking any, check the side effects of them.
I had this happen to me a few years ago. Of course, I checked with my doctor before discontinuing the med.

I'll post a photo of the bottom of the box w/the code when I get home this evening. But I'm pretty sure they're genuine, now. There were several little papers in the box, looked very official, but I tossed 'em. (Have to wait until I open another box.)

Thing is, I thought I was no longer too sick to taste them. My nose isn't stuffed up at all, and I can taste food and wine OK.

About a month ago I went through a powerful course of antibiotics, and it seriously affected my taste. Everything tasted metallic. Things don't taste metallic now, but I wonder if there are lingering after-effects.

Thanks for the help though.

Nothing wastes a good cigar like trying to smoke one with a cold or right after a cold. Once you're cold passes, give yourself a few days and light up a mild bodied cigar. If you can taste the nuances then go back to your favorites.
