Okay, here's my interpretation of "IT":
I may be all wrong but in my opinion "IT" is a general philosophy and attitude one has towards dealing with people here with respect to passes, trades, bombs, etc.
For instance, cheap, selfish people will probably NEVER "get it" because when they shortchange people in passes, trades, etc., they will seldom if ever find that someone will later surprise them with a nice bomb, gift or a nice stick in a host bag of a pass they start. They will develop a reputation for themselves that is not good and will never understand why they don't get invited to participate in "invitation only" passes or have people PMing them asking them to do a trade or come to a herf, etc.
On the other hand people who are generous, positive, helpful & decent towards other BOTL's eventually "get it" as they will find themselves:
receiving nice Secret Santa gifts
surprise "bombs" for no reason
being invited to participate in a private pass
etc..
BUT most important of all, "IT" is being thought of highly and respected by many others around the board. They will find people coming to them for advice, assistance, suggestions, etc.
Lee is certainlly one who get's "IT" as well as DaveWF, Joe.M. & Joeinvest. I could run off a list of a whole bunch of others, old and new alike but we and they know who they are.
As far as FOG's who participate less or operate in "stealth" mode I think there are a couple of explanations for that. I've noticed that some will omit their contact info because their tastes have gotten to a "higher level" and would rather not receive bombs or feel obligated to reciprocate for a bomb they receive that is essentially cigars that they don't particularly care for. Another reason that some FOG's post less is that the novelty of CP wears off after a while. Heck, look back at some old posts, you'll find MANY, MANY people who just got busy with other of life's priorities and aren't as interested anymore. Others are nice enough to check in once in a while and give us a laugh or two (SamClemmons, etc.).
In my case, if and when I ever get back into the workforce with gainful employment, my participation here will most certainllly tail off. It doesn't mean I'm upset with the site, it's just that I'll probably be too busy to participate at the level that I do now.
I tend to disagree with the notion that CP has changed for the worse. Unfortunately we seem to dwell on and rember the occasional "bad" things that go on and forget all the GOOD things, the laughs, the comradarie, the great trades, passes and bombs that IMHO FAR outweigh the few "unpleasant" things that happen. Hey, that's life, it can't be a bowl of peaches and cream ALL the time.
Personally for me, this site has been a wonderful experience in my short six months here. Heck, I know 100 times more about cigars now than I did six months ago and very much appreciate the interaction I've had with 99% of the people here.
So, I say post on, remember the good, we'll work through the occasional bump in the road, learn from it and move on!!
Just my two cents.
Thanks to everyone for making this a great place.
