Bacon. Eat Bacon. It's the answer to everything in life. Even my bacon scented soap...She can't say no to bacon.

Make sure you are retrohaling. That is to say, blow smoe smoke out of your nose. You have five taste receptores in your mouth, and fourteen in your nose.

Still nothing.

Time off didn't help at all.

Dead smoke.

Saw a doctor, useless.

Just wanted to keep y'all updated.

Man, that sucks. I hope you get this figured out soon. I can't even imagine what you are going through.

Do other tastes that you crave seem less enjoyable? Do you a notice a increase/decrease in tolerane for spicy/salty/sour foods?

Have you had a head injury lately, have you scalded your tongue during this time? Do you have allergies or take any meds? (Beta blockers and/or ACE inhibitors)

You might try consulting an allergist, otolaryngologist, neurologist or other specialist.

If all else fails I might need to inspect your smokes for further review pending your doctors results. :whistling:

I've noticed a slight increase for salt.

I've been drinking a can of V8 daily for a week or so.

When this happened to me I was going to quit, but
I just kept smoking on my regular routine, and soon
I forgot that I was going to quit. Several months later
I found that I no longer needed to smoke strong cigars
to get the flavors, so I cut back to medium smokes and
life is good again. My palate became more sensitive or
maybe educated.

Chemyst

I use a tongue brush called Orabrush that losens and scrapes off buildup on the tongue maing your mouth feel fresher and clean. (Not affiliated just a long time user)

This will also aid (I hope) in alleviating your palette.

Best of luck!

-Jimmy

As I've been following this thread, you got a ton of great advice and listened wisely.

But what I want to add is this, maybe you need more time off then you alotted. When this happens to me and I hit that wall, I may take a month or more off until things settle down with the taste buds. Everyone is different and you may have really burned those receptors out...give them time to revive themselves and try again in a few months.

From what I read, you definitely over did the cigar smoking thing in a very short period of time with some pretty powerful cigars. The only one I know that can do that now is Isy, he works in a cigar shop and smokes a lot of cigars. But even he has to cool it sometimes as he says they sometimes taste flat after a few cigar dinners or events when they're back to back. I get the same way too after a big cigar event or dinner...I have to lay low for a few days afterward to get back on track 'taste wise'...but then again, I've been at this for quite some time and know the ins & outs of cigar smoking.

Which brings us to another topic. Cigars now-a-days are way stronger (as a whole) then ever. By that I mean, back in the day, a great majority of them were medium to lighter smokes. Today's market is dominated with powerful cigars and new smokers buy in too quickly. There were ALWAYS stronger tasting cigars out in the marketplace, but not like today, POWER seems to be the hot button of the companies over the last 4-5 years.

You will learn as you move along...don't panic...remain calm...keep buying cigars (some milder) as you chill on smoking to stay involved in the hobby...and when you start back up, have a plan. Start with a few milder smokes (like Dan said) and work your back up to a stronger tasting cigar. To make a steady diet of powerful cigars is tough to do these days, mix it up every day. My humidor is filled with varying degrees of strength of different types of cigars, you need to do the same.

Good luck, you'll be fine.

I don't know if this would help but maybe after taking time off try smoking a flavored cigar like and Acid just to see if you can taste different things through smoke. You can taste food and drink i think because they are a solid substance unlike smoke so maybe just try it. Idk if that would help but anything is worth a try man.

Best of luck to you man,
Trey
