Has anybody here tried eCigarettes? I found a thread where it was mentioned that it's been discussed but I couldn't find where it actually had been discussed. ;)

I've spent no small amount of time on an ecig forum getting a feel for the assorted models...who hates or loves which brands for what reasons but I thought I'd toss a line out here and see if anybody had any input. I have a coworker who's desperate to quit (and she smokes menthols so I don't blame her). She's alergic to the adhesive on the patches, can't stand the gum...so I thought I'd pick up a couple and set her up with one.

I heard about them on Howard Stern. One of the guys on the show (Sal) uses them. He says they are awesome, but now hes addicted to the nicotine vapor that it gives off.

Not surprising since Sal's such a toolbox. Don't get me wrong, he's very funny, but he's killed one too many brain cells.

That said, use them right and they'll probably work. (Sal refills the cartridges with 35-40 mg of nicotine when you're supposed to start at like 15 or so which compares to a real cigarette, and go down.)

What ever happened to will power?? I was a pack a day smoker fer about 5 years and smoked less and less over two weeks until I was down to 2 cigs a day. Then I just didn't buy anymore. Haven't had a cigarette in 3 weeks.

Well, she's done as much as a couple of weeks before, but it usually involves massive amounts of grumpiness and frequent statements such as "I can't believe I have to sit at this desk for 15 hours without a smoke" before she finally gets assigned a project that requires some *serious* hours to meet a deadline and finally caves. I just thought it could only help, figuring that quitting was a good thing even if not through shear willpower alone.

Well, it's not to say I'll never smoke a cigarette again, just that I'm not a regular smoker and probably won't buy any...

You may be one of the select few that do not get 100% addicted. Most people are not that way. I have never smoked cigarettes(except for the few in HS) but my grandmother has been nic free for a couple of years now after smoking for 40 years. So there is hope for everyone.

I smoked a pack and a half a day for 12 years. Dropped them cold turkey for 6 years with after eating being the only time I would crave one. Started one more time for a year and a half and dropped them cold turkey again and haven't had one in two years now.

Never once had nicotine withdrawals.

That's the nature of nicotine. It will leave the body completely in a week or less. If you have the will power to make it that first week, the rest will be much easier. Most people find themselves wanting that cigarette when they start doing something that they always did with a cigarette, i.e. "I only smoke when I drink."

Habits are harder to break than nicotine.

I smoke a pack a day, have since HS. I've tried to quit several times, but lacked the strength to make it completely. I agree that its one of the hardest things to do. Not just the nicotine withdrawal, but the need to have something in my mouth. I would eat Jolly-Ranchers like... well candy! Coffee straws works too. This is the hardest part for me to get over.
