I just opened a box of Emperadores and found it totally distroyed.. :(
It was too moist if not wet with massive mold buildup.. Cigars felt like sponge and there were wet spots in the box, especially on the sides where the thick wood borders are located. I keep all my cigars in my walkin humidor, which I can say is pretty well controlled. I checked all other El Centurion boxes and found one more which had similar damage but not as much. I'm wondering if it was just a misfortune with one of my shippments or a warehouse problem. I'm going to call El Rey del los Habanos tomorrow and find out if any other vendors had this problem.

That's one thing that I noticed when I opened my box - the wood had a high moisture content. I did not have any damage though - hopefully things work out.

I had that problem with one as well. The wood inserts were not cured properly on some of them. The wood was actually wet to the touch. Being a well sealed humidor style box it was 98% humidity inside after I removed a few sticks and checked the level. I happened to open that box immediately so no mold, but I'm absolutely sure it would have if left to sit.

You guys have me scared.....I'll look at my #2 box tonight when I get home.

The #1 box has had wrapper splitting issues on almost every smoke in it. Almost like the filler was too moist and swelled when it got hot (during smoking) and split the wrappers.

I'll let you guys know - B.B.S.

I have a handful of singles and they are fine. No full box here though.

no mold on mine. However, the cigars do feel wet, and spongy and i have to keep lighting the cigar just to keep it going

Good news all around. No mold in either box, and the one I just smoked was wonderful, with no wrapper issues. I think the consensus was valid; these smokes came very moist, and seem to really come around with some time in a proper environment.

Down time seems to make the difference.....B.B.S.

So these are worth picking up if they're not sopping wet? I've heard mixed reviews. I wonder if the moisture content has had a lot to do with those mixed reviews?

Maybe I'll have to put these in next month's budget...

I smoked one that was not overly wet, nor overly dry, just right. To me, the flavor sucked, nothing impressive, nothing stood out flavorwise, and unfortunately a casual boring smoke. This definitely is an Opus, Pepin style. Then again, it's just my preference in flavors.

I've smoked one one and I really dug it.
I don't really get all the comparisons to Opus though...

The profile beats the pants off of the Maduro JJ and the San Cristobal though!
