We used to play a variation called Pin Guard when I was in school. We took a couple of 2X4's about a foot long and placed them about 3' from the wall at each end of the gym. Standard dodge ball rules applied but if you knocked over the pin you win. The "Pin Guard" was kind of like the goalie. Anyone else? ???

Same thing but we used tennis ball cans with the balls still inside.

That works. I much preferred this variant. My best friend in jr. high was a WWII nut (which rubbed off on me) and we used to charge the line screaming "BONZAI!" at the top of our lungs. Needless to say we were not very popular with our teams We did have a lot of fun though
