The evenings are getting cooler, the smell is in the air, and the birds are starting to fly. Duck season in Ohio is just around the corner. Nothing better than sitting in the duck blind, with a fine cigar and a wet retriever. I can't wait for opening morning.

Do any of you guys hunt ducks as well? Anyone have that one secret spot that nobody knows about?

I have a little spot on some private ground that has 4 ponds and some swamp land on it. The first 2 to 3 weeks of season it is a wood duck heaven. Me and my hunting partner pull our limit of 2/per day out of there every time we go down until the woodies push through.

I have another spot on one of my local lakes in the very back of a bay at the end of the lake. There is only one road leading into it and you have to have 4 wheel drive to get into it. The water is less than a foot deep and the catails are over 7 feet tall. There are small pockets of water surrounded by the cattails. The ducks love it in there.

i know of a great place, many species of geese and duck, unfortunately it's on the shores of lake michigan in the city of chicago. it's one of the main migratory routes from up north. ;)
 
I don't hunt, but if I did I wouldn't have to leave my back yard. Damn noisy geese are always flying over (ducks too), makin' noise, disturbing the peace and quiet.

j/k... It's actually quite nice watching them fly over the house all day. :laugh:
 
Hell yeah!

Our opening split is Oct 6-8 and I am pumped! The only downside is that living in Charlotte, there are not many spots around without driving down east.

Some buddies and I are talking about going up north to hunt the cranberry bogs. Anyone know anything about them?
 
Avid waterfowler here.... we're in the midst of our early Teal season which ends Sunday. Spent this past Sat and Sunday in a duck blind. Unfortunately my dog got something in her eye on Sunday that has created a tear. She'll be ok by the time regular duck season gets here but shes out of commision the rest of this week.

For those that hunt you'll be able to relate to this..... Saturday was our opener so I invited a friend to hunt at my lease. It seemed that when the birds would work into our spread they always flared to the left which was the area I was in. My buddy wouldn't shoot since it would involve muzzle blasting me sooooo, in no time flat I had my 4 duck limit and he had 0. Of course the ribbing started with my first question being something like "How many ducks do you have?" And "breakfast sure is sounding good about now" After taking a bit of my flack he told me to pipe down as a flock of about a dozen Teal appeared and started circling the spread. When they came in he fired and dropped the fist one, pulled on the second bird and dropped it, and now, what happen next happen in a matter of seconds.... the remaining birds flared towards me as they had been doing all morning and I dove to the ground and hollared for him to take em...... in which he pulled on them and fired. Two birds fell. (to those who don't know waterfowl regulations only allow you to have 3 shot shells in your gun) Yes, he dropped 4 birds with three shots. It was a sight to see.

Got a duck spot that works rather well,but I've been too busy chasing bullwinkle that I didn't get up there this year... :(
 
BIRDS!!!!!!!

Yeah, I cant wait. I have a couple of great spots and a new lab pup to get going. I hunt both Iowa and Nebraska as I am right on the border. There are some great spots here!
 
I head to Nebraska as well. Dam* fine hunting there, especially on the ranch we go to. Guys that run the place are a great bunch, and it always seems we can get a great, cheap, fare from Ft. Lauderdale (not from Miami though) out to the corn fed state. "Worst" part is the drive from the airport to the ranch, but it dam* sure is worth it.

Can't wait until Nov. when we go.
 
Avid duck hunter at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Myself and another partner have a small club in the midst of the big boys. We named it Little Duckdom. Last year the hunting was not very good no corn crop due to flood, but this year we have a full corn crop and buckwheat in the middle. While it is only 40 acres there are several large clubs around it that don't hunt much.

My partner is a contractor and during the past 6 months has done a gut rehab of the house. New windows, doors, walls, cielings, floors, kitchen and bathroom. Plus he added a wrap-around deck. We should have a great time this year. If anyone wants to come hunt and smoke ceegars LMK. There is room for 6 in the field.
 
Not a duckhunter...some friends are though, and teal season has been going for a couple of weeks. Dove season has been open since sep 1, I have limited out a couple of times so far.
