Hey, Ryan from Famous Smoke Shop here.

Just curious to hear what some of you may have to say about ways we could improve the packing for our shipments?  Throw in a Boveda pack?  Something other than bubble wrap?

Would love to get your feedback and see about working your suggestions into our process.

Any other questions, comments, or suggestions on how we can improve the cigar shopping experience for you are more than welcome as well.

Thanks!

EDIT: Mods, if this was posted in the wrong section, please feel free to move it.

Ryan,

Thanks for asking this question. I have ordered a good amount of cigars & accessories from you guys over the years and nothing bad really stands out other than those big balloons bags popping occasionally because there wasn't enough put in. But nothing that effected the quality of the contents. Personally I'm not a fan of the large air pillows versus the smaller bubble wrap for shipping...I'd even opt for the styrofoam nuggets over the air pillows. Those large pillows easily pop when you have a few boxes of cigars packed in a box that is too big for the contents...too much movement in there. I'd stick to smaller bubble wrap & styrofoam.

As for a Boveda pack, I'm in NJ and generally get your stuff within a day or two, so the traveling time for me is not an issue...plus, nothing really happens to the cigars within a week or so without humidification if they're put into a large plastic baggie if they're not already wrapped in plastic.

Keep up the good work and let's hope your Governor doesn't have his way in adding a cigar tax in the state of Pennsylvania!

Gary

I agree not a big fan of the pillows, but I can see how using those can be faster then wrapping everything in bubble wrap when you are banging out orders all day long.  I do have an order arriving in the next day or two so I will given any final thoughts when it does.

Vacuum sealing with a Boveda pack never hurts.
Take this from the King of Packaging...agree.

And when I say this, I mean Kris...takes great pride in making sure everything is tidy and well taken care of.

Thanks for posing the question Ryan.  I appreciate Famous' interest in improving some things and asking the community on its two cents.

So here is mine:

- The big balloon bags can go.  I don't think they do a very good job.  They can pop, and items can/do find crevices to slip around in.

- Styrofoam nuggets are great.  They fill in every gap in the box and provide great shock absorption for shipping/handling.

- Boveda packs are how I seperate a professional company from a budget company.  When I open a box and see that the vendor has placed in a Boveda pack, it gives me the impression they take pride in providing quality product to the consumer.  I know this, because it's an expense that they don't  necessarily have to make.  I think it's "above and beyond", and that sort of quality control is what brings me back again.

- Vaccum sealing is outstanding.  I love getting my boxes in vacuum sealed, though it is rare to see.  If I get a product in vacuum sealed with Boveda, I can gaurantee I'll be back.

Summary:  I can easily spend 30 minutes finding the cheapest deal on the net for any cigar I want, and I can find it at rock bottom.  However, I rarely purchase it that way because the vendors I go back to time and time again provide top notch quality control and shipping.  They don't charge me for it up front, but I know it's there, and it's proven when I open the box.  I'll pay a few bucks more everytime, if I know my purchase is appreciated and that it's given the care it deserves.

If the cost of the water pack is passed onto the customer(me)...then just ship your good condition cigars.

Main issue - don't have them rolling around in the box.

Not true Ironman, you don't poop your pants but you get a lot of practice putting a HARD strain on that sphincter muscle.

If you do a search for "search" your search will fold space-time and be incorporated into the database as a scream echoing throughout eternity.

Just saying ... :p

Semi late, but new to CP. My 2 cents is that your packaging is fine, but your shipping leaves a lot to be desired. Some people will put me on blast for this, but USPS is way better than UPS, lately and a really good deal. About 2 weeks ago, I placed order with Famous Smoke and later that day I order some Anejos from a supplier in China, most of the people who orders CC's know who I am talking about, and I recieved my package, from China, 4 days before I recieved my order from Famous Smoke and I didn't even pay for shipping. You guys are really quick with processing and getting the orders out but after that, the econo shipping you guys use really prevent me from ordering from Famous Smoke. I have spent about $4k in the past few months and sadly because of shipping only $125 was with Famous Smoke. I stop my rant now.

Agreed. Ups surepost or whatever it is sucks. Long trip to Hawaii.
